No more Mushy Middle - in 3-4 years

Created by: sburns1992
Team: 2023-24 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: May 3, 2023
Published: May 3, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is not real and these trades will not happen. But if I had control of the Jets and wanted to rebuild and could control people's minds (within reason) this is what I would do. This team would suck horribly so you end up trading Neiderreiter, Bjugstadt, Luybushkin, and Donato at the deadline if you can.

As a Wings fan, I'd personally pass. Hellebuyck is obviously better now, and Cossa may never reach his level. But Helle is already over 30, and his age just doesn't line up with the Wings rebuild at all. He'd be really old by time they're a cup contender

Why are so many Jets fans convinced Buffalo would want Scheifele? Center is arguably their strongest position (minus winning face-offs).

No thanks from Detroit. If he wants to play in Detroit we will sign him as a free agent otherwise we will just develop Cossa.

Honestly they should be after JGP if the Islanders decide to move him. Wins draws and is super solid defensively. They have more than enough fire power.

Even if the Jets trade Scheifele there isn't a world where Evans becomes a Jet.

Interesting. As an outside observer I thought the Red Wings were closer to contending than it seems? Thought as early as next year.

I'm sorry but Detroit isn't giving up that much for a 30yr old goalie when they aren't even a playoff team yet. I do like Hellebuyck but it's more than Detroit can afford to give up.

Truthfully, I thought Cozens was a LW, which is why I identified Buffalo as a team that might need a 2C. Scheifele might still fit on the right side somewhere and did play well on PLD's wing down the stretch run.

Genuinely curious. If you were to get PLD in a trade this year, what are you willing to give up? I don't think the Jets will do it if a roster player isn't coming back. Unless you throw in another prospect.

Commented this on a similar post earlier but as an outside observer I thought Detroit was closer to contending then they are I suppose. I will obviously defer to Red Wings fans on that one.

Detroit is closer than some on here give them credit for, but that is BECAUSE of Yzerman's patience and we're not selling the future. Detroit is keeping all our A level picks and prospects. If a trade can be made that makes us better that doesn't cost us one of those, we do it, otherwise, we stay the course.

Jets add Kyle Connor to wings trade

Still wouldn't do it. Connor might make the Wings a playoff team next year. Helleybuck too. Cossa and Mazur, in 2-3 could easily be at the same level as the 2 players being traded for. Plus the 1st. Yikes. Helleybuck likely declines in his 30s, and needs a new deal now. Connor needs a new deal in a couple years. Doesn't fit with timing, and can shorten the competitive window when everyone else is ready.

Fair enough! I guess my thought was Helle in the next 2-3 years could get them over the hump rather than waiting for Cossa to develop. But if I were the Red Wings I'd be pretty cautious to protect that outstanding prospect pool as well! Plus there's a chance Husso has a bounce-back year too.

Ah a fellow-suffering Jets fan! Welcome! lol. Yeah I think he has about 90% of his body out the door already. If they don't think they can get a full buy-in from him next year a trade has to get done sooner rather than later.

Wheeler is 36 and will be a UFA after next season. Why would the Islanders take on $4.5mm for just 15-16 goals? We could just hold onto Bailey and have the same result.

Close to playoffs? Yes. Close to competing for more? Still 3 years, maybe 4 before the team is a real threat. Cossa needs to be a #1 by then, Edvinsson a top LD, and Wallinder or Johansson or both legit top 4. Mazur appears to be a steal of a top 6 winger.

As early as next year being a playoff team maybe. But as of now only Seider and Raymomd have fully made the team of Yzerman's picks. It'll be another few years before the team is a real contender

No. Next year we'll only have 3 or 4 Yzerman drafted prospects on the team.
Next year I'd be amazed if we crack wildcard.

Yeah but we lost Bertuzzi and Vrana at the start of the season they were in our top 6. That puts Fabbri in to the top 6 but with the knees of an 80yr old he was only able to play 28 games. Now Rasmussen did step up and played well until he got injured. Edvinsson who would have made the team out of camp is now out for 5 months with a shoulder injury. So Mazur could actually make the team out of camp. With injuries and horrible lottery luck I'm not sure Detroit is even a playoff team for the next couple of seasons. And that is pretty depressing.
