The Big 4 Trades

Created by: Theo_nollaf
Team: 2023-24 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: May 3, 2023
Published: May 3, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Four major trades need to be done in Winnipeg, but a rebuild is unlikely. I think the values across the board here make sense as Winnipeg seeks picks and prospects and trade players to realistic team fits.
I'm aware of the Peterson, Terravainen and DeMelo partial no-trade clauses so you can take those trades as unrealistic if you will

Carolina laughs that out of the building, but the rest seems ok.

Over valuing Winnipeg players in most of these trades, PLD is fine value wise but Habs don't have anyone behind Barron for prospects so he would be a no

laugh Rob Blake isn't trading Brandt Clarke for a 31 year old Connor Hellebuyck when he new deal kicks in next summer. LA would need to include a 1st just to move Peterson other than Clarke that's a crap offer for Helly.

Pens say yes. This would legit be a move to try and give Crosby/Malkin/Letang one more shot at a cup. Plus you took Granlund which makes me very happy.

Canes pass. That wheeler contract is an anchor and that isn't enough for Teravainen

Gotta trade good players to get good players. Unless LA is comfortable going into their young core's prime without a true option in net, then this trade makes a lot of sense. Hellebuyck is a world beater and immediately makes them true contenders

I'm VERY much against the idea of trading Barron. But no 1st round pick AND getting rid of Armia...you're making a strong case for it.
I'd be tempted to take that deal, and try to find a remplacement to Barron (maybe a Durzi).

Both have a year left. Wheeler is cheaper with retention. Wheeler is experienced and coming off of a better season offensively. Terravainen seems to be out of the good graces in Carolina with no consistent lineup spot in Carolina due to their depth on the wing. Makes sense to me

I know you're talking about the right side but the Habs have a great young D core even after this (Guhle, Harris, Xhekaj, Mailloux, Beadin and lots of picks) The value here is too good to pass up from Montreal's standpoint.

I'd imagine that Rob Blake just re-signing Joonas Korpisalo. Much cheaper and he played solid there. Sorry i don't see Hellebuyck signing long term with LA taxes alone will kill him.

What? Teravainen is a top 6 player in Carolina. He's not playing right now because he's got a broken hand. Wheeler is slower, and not as good defensively. Teuvo is better on the penalty kill, Teuvo is WAY younger... why would Carolina do this?

You wouldn’t take a point per game C as a 3C if it meant giving up the 16th OA pick?

Nope, I wouldn’t trade the *14th OA* in a *deep draft* that we desperately need a forward with top 6 upside for 1 year of Scheifle at 31 years old.

Again, next year I would. Draft isn’t as star studded as this one and with the trade going through we would likely finish in 20ish range hopefully, making it more value for us and more comfortable for us to pull the trigger.

Los Angeles can't afford one season of Connor Hellebuyck -- can't afford the cost of acquiring him, can't afford his cap hit without sending Cal Petersen and one other major contract back for him, and can't afford to re-sign him.

You Winnipeg guys should just give it up -- we're not trading Brandt Clarke for him, and without him, we don't have the pieces to make you guys happy,

Duh. There's two sides to a trade. And in this case, the team giving up the only currently good player and only good one for the next 3 years needs something in return.

He's attempting to justify his foolish trades by using flawed narratives. Straw man arguments.

Why would anyone want that douchebag Wheeler, he's such a petulant clown, Jets are probably stuck with him unfortunately.

What flawed narratives? That players take time to develop and Crosby, Malkin and Letang are old? The trade comparison is the Horvat trade, Raty is a better propect than Blomqvist, Beauvillier and Granlund are comparable and the first is slightly better and a 3rd is added because Scheifele is better than Horvat and Raty better than Blomqvist.
