I have a feeling

Team: 2023-24 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: May 5, 2023
Published: May 8, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Vancouver moves up to No 1. Detroit to No. 2

Draft wish list:
Fantilli
Reinbacher
Leonard
Moore
Danielson/Yager/Ritchie (any right handed forward but particularly a centre)
Willander
Nadeau

After wining the #2 lottery Yzerman knows the team is only a couple years out and trades whatever he can to stock up on this draft class

#2 - Fantilli
#14 - Reinbacher (fingers crossed)
#17 - Leonard (fingers crossed)
#20 - Yager
#28 - Willander
#41 - Nadeau

My opinion: Toronto and Chicago deals actually quite fair for other team. Pittsburgh one is a tough sell. Maybe with a retained Perron instead but didn’t want to do that and highly doubt Pitt is at all willing to move that pick unless it’s just a trade down, so that’s just fantasy. Add or subtract whatever quanitity desired. Just threw as much quantity there coupled with the cap dumps. Mastrosimone, Lindstrom and Niederbach all former second rounders that aren’t years away like picks might be to contributing while Crosby is still there if that’s the idea

Giving up a future Bruins 1st is not very smart imo, and that Pens deal sucks for the Wings

Take out the pics and maybe. Carter and Petry are negative assets (Petry is a fine player on a very very very bad deal)

I would accept if Pens. They can keep Kubalik and either let the other walk or put them in the A. That would give the pens about $27M in cap space + they'd buy out Granlund or attempt to move him, either way would bump them above $30M for the offseason, a lot of space for them to retool.

However, I doubt Detroit does this, and I don't think Jeff Carter waives for Detroit. I also fully believe Carter is retiring.

I admire your optimism. Unfortunately I can't share it. Red Wings have been kicked in the junk too many times at the draft lottery. I'm not even watching it tonight. I'm sick of Fat Billy's **** eating grin when Detroit gets 💩 on. Again.

Value might be fair, but can't see Hawks trading out of the 1st round this year. Yager (if he's there at 20) fits the Hawks needs much better than Johansson.

So here's the general issue with that Pens trade...

Carter has made it clear that he doesn't want to retire and that he wants to stay with the Pens. The is an unfortunate reality for us Pens fans, but I think others on this board need to recognize the reality. His full NMC makes this nearly impossible to happen.

Also, as alarmist as people have been about Petry on here, I don't believe that ownership has soured on him that much. Petry's bad season has been GROSSLY overblown by irrational people. Yes, he started wonky, but eventually found his game, but then got injured and still came back with a strong finish on the season. A healthy season would have netted him between 40-45 points playing on the 2nd pair and little to no top unit PP time. Yes, he's slowed down a little, but he was still effective on the back-end of the season.

I'm not saying the Pens can get some kind of crazy return for him if they decided to move him, but they don't need to pay to move him.

I don't think the overall exchange of value in the Pens trade is bad. I think you fairly attempted to make up for us giving you our 1st by giving us a 2nd and 3rd, but the other reality here is the Pens haven't drafted this high in like 15 years? I'd say there's less than 1% chance we move that pick unless we massively upgrade our team and while this trade helps us, it's not big enough to warrant them moving their best draft position in over 15 years.

Hawks decline. A LHD prospect is the last thing the Hawks are looking for as Johansson just adds another to one aspect of the Hawk prospect pool that is actually extrememly deep in numbers. #19OA (fingers crossed Toronto does what Toronto does and loses this round) in a deep draft is better than hoping Boston unravels in a single season to have a '24 pick put you in a better position for a better prospect (my best guess it the Boston pick is mid 20's or worse as they try to keep the band together for a last run more than starting some type of retool or teardown). Hawks also already have 2 1st next year so I would much rather keep the current balance of a couple per season in the next 3 drafts. Hawks are WAY more likely to use a 2nd to move into (or up in) the first then they are to trade out of the first to accumulate a 5th 2nd rounder.
