So here's the general issue with that Pens trade...
Carter has made it clear that he doesn't want to retire and that he wants to stay with the Pens. The is an unfortunate reality for us Pens fans, but I think others on this board need to recognize the reality. His full NMC makes this nearly impossible to happen.
Also, as alarmist as people have been about Petry on here, I don't believe that ownership has soured on him that much. Petry's bad season has been GROSSLY overblown by irrational people. Yes, he started wonky, but eventually found his game, but then got injured and still came back with a strong finish on the season. A healthy season would have netted him between 40-45 points playing on the 2nd pair and little to no top unit PP time. Yes, he's slowed down a little, but he was still effective on the back-end of the season.
I'm not saying the Pens can get some kind of crazy return for him if they decided to move him, but they don't need to pay to move him.
I don't think the overall exchange of value in the Pens trade is bad. I think you fairly attempted to make up for us giving you our 1st by giving us a 2nd and 3rd, but the other reality here is the Pens haven't drafted this high in like 15 years? I'd say there's less than 1% chance we move that pick unless we massively upgrade our team and while this trade helps us, it's not big enough to warrant them moving their best draft position in over 15 years.
