Why would Domi go back to Chicago who traded him and not resign with Stars who are going to be a contender for a while?

Rangers don't make that trade. If Laff is willing to sign that deal, he stays in NY. Bertuzzi is reported to want $7m a year. He won't sign for that. And can't see Hawks signing any UFA from this year's group for more than 3 years max. Galvas signed to play in Sweden earlier today.
