Why do I keep seeing Bratt being traded? He’s a fine player and is in his first playoffs, that doesn’t mean you just give up on a young promising winger..

Is this a team that won't commit 26 giveaways in a single, pivotal playoff game?

Barbashev on 1st line is not the answer. We play a possession style game. When done well, it improves the offense and the defense. Barbashev is not someone we would want high up in our lineup if we are going to continue that approach. Goaltending has been inconsistent, but hasn’t been horrible overall.

We are the second youngest team in NHL, youngest team in playoffs, and the youngest in many years to make 2nd round. We have gone 1-3 against the NHL’s most experienced team. And we weren’t even supposed to be here.

No reason to change style, rebuild, etc. Just let them grow.

It is a very misleading stat.

1. In general, teams that truly play a possession style of game, will often have higher amount of giveaways. They hold the puck longer, which results in more giveaways. As an isolated stat, it’s meaningless. (Possession teams have fewer takeaways on average…and usually hit less, get hit more….all fairly useless stats).

2. For this game, most of those were at end of game when score was lopsided. Hail Mary time. NJ weren’t great with the puck (Dougie and Smith especially). But they were that bad.

After the first period devils were 9-1 on giveaways vs takeaways. Even if a lot came at the end of the game, there were wayyyyyyyyy to much between the 1st and 2nd period when the game was still within reach.

They weren’t great with the puck yesterday. Many sloppy passes, especially by blueline. And 6 goals on first 18 shots is brutal.

But as far as a stat goes, building a team for ‘fewer giveaways’ is about as misguided as building a team to ‘hit more’. Some NJ fans want to abandon possession game, adopt “pucks down low” (or dump and chase) system where we should grind away goals with big bodies along the boards. We’d hit more, give puck away less. (And win less).

If the Jets commit to a rebuild, this is a yes.

They could then flip Bratt for a combo of picks and prospects, cause if it is a rebuild, I doubt he'd want to stay, and he's a good enough player to get great future assets

Obviously just throwing darts at a wall here, but I see three key decision points for Fitz this offseason:

1. Jack's linemates. It's early in his career, but it's starting to feel like the Penguins decade-long search for Sid's wingers after Dupuis and Kunitz left. Jack needs his Dupuis and Kunitz, I think. Haula could be his Dupuis, but not sure if Timo is his Kunitz.

2. Goalie. Vitek was good enough in the regular season, but what the hell happened in the playoffs? Dude seems to be totally in his own head. I'm not sure if he and Schmid are a playoff-winning tandem.

3. 3RD. If Nemec is ready, then by all means, play him. FWIW, I'd love to bring Severson back short-term, but unless he's so loyal to the team and wants to be part of the success after toiling away for so many years, there's no reason a 28yo skilled RD in his prime would turn away from long-term, lucrative deals elsewhere. Even if Nemec is ready, however, they need to add a veteran presence on the right side for depth. Maybe not Gudas, but...

This is Bratt's second playoffs and he is constantly making the wrong decisions on the puck without making up for it off the puck

Technically his first, in that last playoff he played just 1 game. And yea that’s something you should expect out of a young forward who has virtually zero experience in the playoffs.

There's a lot of other guys playing in their first* playoffs too that are outperforming him
