If MTL wants to wait a year and try to sign dubois in UFA, that’s up to them. Dubois is pretty intent on testing the market as an UFA. However, many teams might be willing to get him even as a rental. Washington and Boston come to mind. Carolina as well. Maybe even NYR. And they’d be willing to pay more than what some MTL fans are on here trading for him. The Washington trade is an idea I had (I posted it a couple of days ago, and got some feedback, so I want to make slight changes). I also happened to post it during the draft lottery so it got pushed down really fast by all the hawks posts and I didn’t get a lot of feedback. So here ya go.
For the Washington trade, I think the jets are giving up more, but I wanted to hear what caps fans think. At most, the caps add a late 2nd or 3rd.
After that, I kind of just had fun lol. Tried to make sense of what other teams wanted as well. I’d personally like to get Murphy because I think the current jets d is too small and slow. Replacing demelo with Murphy fixes the former, and schmidt with heinola the latter. Buffalo fans really want demelo, so if I’m getting Murphy, I’d be willing to move him. The jets take a chance on luukhonen while also picking up Murray as a backup. If luukhonen has a bad camp, we waive him and Murray is the backup. Hawks fans also want a 1st for Murphy, mainly because they have so many 2nds. Why not move up a round then? Thought it was a good solution but value might be slightly off. I also moved the schmidt contract which doesn’t require a big sweeter, but does have slight negative value. I also added chisholm who I think would be great in Chicago and it’s either him or heinola in Winnipeg (and I’m a big heinola believer).
Finally, the last one is to move up. The jets have a fair bit of higher end prospects, but if someone like wood or reinbacher is available at 12 oa, the jets should make the move to move up.
Scheifele and Helly are signed to 6x9M extensions.
Was tired of the boring old stuff so tried something different. Lmk what y’all think.
And finally, where does this team end up? Playoffs? Contender? Lottery? I personally think they contend for first in the central, but could have another collapse like last year and 2019.
So the Hawks move up from #44 to #28, but it costs them Murphy to do it? Plus taking on Schmidt's contract? That's a really easy no thanks from the Hawks.
And moving up from #17 to #6 definitely costs more than a 3rd and Stanley. AZ declines as well.

Ya Arizona not trading out of 6 with the amount of picks they have and the possibility of catching a falling mitchkov gamble or bpa, give geekie a fellow ice draft pick in benson even.
Matthew wood or David reinbacher. Tbh, I don’t think there’s much point of trading up unless it’s someone with size. The jets upcoming prospects aren’t small, but they aren’t big guys either. I think either wood or reinbacher would add an element the jets don’t have right now.

It’ll be 24 oa, not 28. And you are also getting chisholm, who I think will be a solid top 4 d. He’s as nhl ready as they come too.
I could just take out Schmidt’s contract and move it elsewhere with a piece. I honestly doing think his value is that “negative”. Like sure we will need to add a sweetener, but it won’t be massive.
Also, may I remind you that Marino got smith and a 3rd last year. Albeit chisholm is no smith, but jumping from 44 to 24 is also there…
I agree on the Arizona trade tbh. However, when a big former 1st rounder d-man is involved, u never know how much other teams value him. I wouldn’t do it if I was Arizona, but you never know.

I mean, this would be a draft floor type trade. I’d only make it if a guy I really like ends up there.

Arizona at 12 probably a easier pick to grab and a little more likely to be in play, i just mean with the abundance of picks that Arizona has, adding picks or players got to be a large overpay to not pick at 6.

Boston won the President's Cup. Their pick is set at #28. Doesn't matter that they lost in first round..
Chisholm doesn't move the needle for the Hawks. They have 6 left shot D prospects they are high on. Vlasic and Phillips are also NHL ready and will most likely be the two top 4 left D for Hawks to start the season. I can say with confidence Hawks aren't making trades for any left D unless they are pure cap dumps that teams are paying the Hawks to take.

Didn’t know that about the presidents trophy winners. Interesting indeed.
I disagree on chisholm (who can also play right side). Also, I don’t think Phillips is nhl ready, especially not for top 4 mins. And tinordi should not be a regular. The hawks have the space for a prospect like chisholm right now. Vlasic might also not be ready, though I think he is. I think the hawks end up getting a stopgap or 2 on d.just my two cents
If the Hawks want that Boston 1st THAT bad, they move the Ottawa 2nd and a late round pick and cut out the middle man where they take an expensive contract they have no interest in and a prospect that overlaps the one area of their prospect pool that is super deep...LHD and give away the last big trade chip (other than maybe TRad) in Murphy for what looks to me virtually nothing (cause again they can go directly to Toronto and take Murray themselves for a year).

LHD is the biggest logjam in our organisation. Vlasic is well and truly ready and Phillips is so athletic and physical to go with his tools, he too is more than ready and particularly the way Richardson likes to play.
Also they have both played more than Chisholm has at NHL to date.
Such an interesting trade for the caps. It all comes down to PLDs intentions. I would add a pick and take it for sure if he would sign long term.
I didn’t value it based on the extension cause we know for a fact that PLD wants to test UFA. That’s the only thing he’s said, and he has said it repeatedly. Nothing about MTL, nothing about another team. He’s just wants to go to UFA and have control. That is all he has said.
So I built it as a rental type situation. The jets get a couple of guys, and the caps get a couple. Mantha and kuz are both struggling, wheeler and Dubois are not. Also, Dubois>kuz, wheeler>= Mantha (if he can bounce back). Combining those things, I think it makes up for kuz having an extra year and the difference between iorio and lundmark.
Both teams honestly don’t give up a lot either. Kuz wants out and Mantha hasn’t been great and is looking to bounce back. The jets want to move dubois and wheeler. Other than a prospect swap, no team is giving up more than it wants or has to tbhl.
