Full Rebuild

Created by: TMLBRIAN

Description
I think the best thing Pits can do is do a rebuild. Malkin to Colorado seems like a perfect fit. Crosby to Edmonton would be all kinds of fun. Guentzel would have quite a few suitors, it doesn't need to be Buffalo but it would be fun if they did it. Rakell is a good player but decent amount of cap, so he got the Bjorkstrand treatment. LAK get their top 4 left D, while shedding Petersens cap.

Islanders and Vancouver deals are cap dumps for picks.

I didn't fill out the roster, I more so wanted to focus on the trades.

Thoughts? Did I just go full crazy?

Pretty sure Buffalo tells Pittsburgh to kick rocks if that’s the asking price.

1st for Petersen dump
2 x 2nd and Turcotte for Girard? I view Turcotte as 2nd round pick in terms of value.

Maybe remove one 2nd?

I don't think malkin is a fit for colorado at all. He's about 7 years older than our core players. I could only see colorado in the talks for guentzel.

Yeah, can't see Buffalo doing that. Especially with Kulich involved.

They need a #2 C. Malkin would fill that role nicely. He is signed for a few years at a very reasonable cap hit. Guentzel is a pending UFA winger.

I think them being able to dump Cal Peterson is the reason for the massive return in addition to Girard

You're essentially saying that soon-to-be 37-year-old Malkin is worth 2x 1st round picks, 2x 2nd round picks, a 3rd round pick, Turcotte, and Olausson, as long as Pittsburgh is willing to take back Petersen's contract.

That's pretty crazy.

Crosby? If they are trading everyone in this universe that is.

Yeah cause a 30+ goal scorer with only a 3 million cap hit isn’t worth at least a 1st lol.

Well I didn't say that, said with Kulich. I wouldn't give the 13th pick for him either, maybe if we had a later first. Guy is a Offensive Zone start machine

Crosby would probably reject the trade and Edmonton asks you to ether pick a 1st or a 2nd.

Having said that, Edmonton would accept this trade.

I assume if Crosby does waive, Edmonton would be very high on his list of places he would go to.

Here is the deal.
Yes Guentzel is a scoring machine no doubt about it, he is also Crosby's wing man over 80% of the time.
Kulich is nearly 10 years younger than Jake and just set a record for the most AHL goals in one season by a teenager.
He has a goal in 4 straight Calder cup games and the Amerks have won every game in which he dressed.
I am sure some one will give up a first and an "A" prospect for him but it will not be the Sabres as Juri appears to have a 30 goal/year NHL future as well.

That’s fine but the people I replied to also said they wouldn’t do it for just the 1st either. That was the point and why I said what I said. To claim that Jake half retained isn’t worth at least a 1st is just nonsense.
And he might be Crosby’s wing when Crosby is healthy but it’s not like he hasn’t produced with other players. 21-22 he put up 40 goals and had his best season and played with guys like Carter and ERod for like 1/4 of the season cause Malkin missed the 1st half of the season and Crosby missed the 1st like 15 games or so.

The value of a 1st round pick is all relative to the team holding it, what they already have in their organization and what they need. For Buffalo, their 1st rounder has more value than adding another offensive winger when they have multiple 30-goal scorers on the current roster (four this year), another scoring winger one the roster likely to become a future 30-goal scorer in Quinn and yet another prospect in the AHL that looks like an offensive dynamo in Kulich.

As a player, no one is disputing Guentzel's caliber or that he would be worth a 1st rounder to another team that needs to add offense more desperately than Buffalo - but he's not worth a 1st rounder to Buffalo as a 1-for-1 swap for the reasons cited. And when you factor in Kulich's potential like gretzkyghost noted, then it becomes even more lopsided for Pittsburgh.
