I’d rather not move two firsts for a 31 year old Nelson. Preds pass.

Proven 35 goal scorers with nearly a point per game production, signed for several years at below market cost, is getting two mid-round firsts and a prospect or a player anywhere in the league. And especially on your club because you've got multiple guys signed for long deals producing a lot less.

I would say the issue here isn’t cost, but is that the Preds are more than a Brock Nelson away from being a good, contending team

You missed the playoffs by 3 points. You've got Forsberg, Duchene, Josi and a decent supporting cast. You also have a ton of picks. Unless you decide to go full rebuild with youth which doesn't seem like it makes sense, you need to add pieces. Nelson is affordable and very productive with a team friendly CAP hit.

We were only this good because of Saros. He carried this team to the finish line. We had zero offense outside of Novak, and the season he just had is gonna be hard to replicate. I think we have a good future, but it’s still a year out. Between Parssinen, Evangelista, Novak, Glass, Kemell, and Tomasino there’s a lot to be excited about; however, I would say they aren’t at the level they need to be at to make this team great

I'm not denying that Nelson is good. Can score 30+ and is a vet leader.

My point being that he's on the wrong side of 30 and his deal expires in two seasons when he'll be 33/34. For a team in retool, it's not ideal that Trotz moves two firsts for a dude like that.

Chychrun was a top defender before traded, and was moved for less than this at the age of 24 with an affordable cap hit.

Nelsons age and contract makes this trade very less than ideal.
