Draft day and off season

Created by: Wingsfannn
Team: 2023-24 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: May 14, 2023
Published: May 14, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Pacioretty given recent injuries likely won’t get big money or longterm. Yzerman offers him same salary and takes the risk hoping if he can stay healthy he might fetch a big return at the deadline

For wings fans thinking playoffs I realistically believe we’re 2 years away. East is too strong. We’ll be better off when edvinsson and kasper etc... get some nhl experience

Yzerman overpays reaves for one year to provide protection for the kids and due to fabbri’s history of injuries he’ll likely end up missing games and reaves should likely still be in line to play significant amount of games

Hmm. You do know that Colorado's 1st is going to be higher than Dallas' 1st, right? Perhaps even 7-8 slots higher. The Avs will pick at #23.

I love the Vancouver trade. It's fair and makes sense. Not sure if Vancouver wants to pursue this, or if they can stomach the last year of Myers.

The Winnipeg and Colorado trades are bad for everyone. Picks after 20 are about as good as picksin the 40s. No need to move up.

No they actually have this correct the Colorado pick will actually be later. They don’t reorder picks until the 2nd round is over and division champs that get eliminated get the later picks so Colorado guaranteed to get one of those later picks (around 27 range) meanwhile the Toronto pick the Blues got two days ago officially will be either 24 or 25. The Dallas pick would be either 23 or 24 if they lose Monday but would fall all the way to 29 at best if Dallas wins.

We'd need to add for that VAN trade. It's only one year left and realistically they shouldn't be trying to be buyers at the TDL.

Holy crap, I legit did not even notice the Avs rallied to edge the division. Some of us stopped looking at the top of the standings in March to watch the bottom of the standings. squinty smile

Besides maybe Colorado I don't see why any team would do those. Unless Dallas beats Seattle then the Blues accept.

If this is what it costs to get rid of Myers, then Vancouver will just stomach the last year of the deal. He can probably return a pick at the deadline 50% retained. If the Canucks do want to move Myers, they’d target a deal using a mid to late round pick to get rid of him (most likely 3rd/4th).

I don’t see why the Canucks would drop 6 spots to shed 1 year of angers. It’s literally just 1 year. Canucks don’t need short term cap space that bad. There really isn’t any benefit of having an extra year of cap space

The Wings center pipeline is not the same as the wing pipeline. They have very few centers in the pipeline, so trading Veleno just to sign an older version of him for more money doesn't make sense to me.

Dude this makes me wonder now when you give everyone crap on their mock drafts if you have even watched anybody play. If you didn’t even watch enough hockey to know who won your own division, or notice that the Avs faced off against wild card 1 Seattle…

Bad why? All depends if theres someone you like there and think you won’t be able to get them 10 spots back. If we ended up having 0 2nds and 3 1sts and some where we moved up I’d be happy. We should be done playing it safe and I hope yzerman is aggressive . My #1 play wouldnbe michkov if he drops to 6 or 7 but I doubt it happens

Why add? They been desperate to get rid of myers for years and all I hear is how are the canucks going to shed salary this summer. I’d much rather just give up a 2nd at that point to move up and not take on myers. Why would we ever do both

Riiiiight, because humans never happen to miss something and if they do miss one thing that automatically means they never notice anything. They edged it on the last day, and no, I did not pay any attention to the top of the division standings or how the playoff slots finished up. I was preoccupied with the bottom of the overall standings and checking on draft prospects/Blues draftees in juniors.

And if fair, educated, logical critique qualifies as "giving everyone crap" then what category does this post of yours slot into? "Cogent, dispassionate analysis"? tears of joy

Long story short: If Dallas wins game 7 against Seattle, Colorado will have the higher pick. If Seattle wins, Dallas will have the higher pick. My earlier comment was potentially erroneous.

Alright pal, just checkinggg. Wasn’t meant to come across as personal as maybe it did. Just had taken your word for a lot in mock draft comments but also realize a lot of people on this site don’t watch the amount of hockey they act like they do. Fair game if you’ve turned your attention to scouting, I’ll keep taking your word there

All good 😂 so either way your guaranteed 26th no? If seattle wins they move into final 4 and you fall back one spot. Same the other scenario

No worries. Just a little banter. But yeah, last time I remember looking the Avs were like eight points back chasing Dallas and Minnesota. I did not realize they won seven of their last eight to nip it on the final day. No clue. I should have figured it out when Dallas and Minnesota matched up in the 1st round, but I simply didn;t think about it. I was busy watching the Blues' lottery odds annoyingly dwindle over the last few weeks. tears of joy
