solid list. my top 3 in order is : sandin pellikka, yager, perrault
I haven't seen the hype around Sandin Pellikka but it's probably cause I haven't watched him enough. I've heard people say hes the next Swedish Quinn Hughes though
I like Yaeger and Oliver Moore, but both will probably go sooner. Maybe not Yaeger though. Have you checked out Axel Sandin Pellikka? His skating is unreal and I think he has real 1st pair potential

Considering the fact we just drafted Pickering I’d be interested to see if they’d still pull the trigger on him at 14 over a Center or Winger.

Good point, I think at this point though you go best player available. Even though we have Pickering our prospect pool still is really weak in every area. I wouldn't have an issue with any of the other options mentioned, but just think he has the highest ceiling of players who will be available for us. See real star potential there
I will never understand the part of this fanbase that wants to use the first round picks. If it's not a top 5 pick, they should be moving it. This core has 4 years left, five if they're lucky. You trade these picks for someone to help you NOW. I know a LARGE majority of the vocal fanbase wasn't around to see the dark years from 2001 - Crosby, but this rebuild will be much, much worse than that. The likelihood of them making the playoffs next year is high. They'll be competitive for the remainder of Crosby's career. That means AT BEST, they're picking somewhere from 16-31 lets say for the next 3-5 years. The prospects they have are not great, they're not even bottom six regulars in the NHL. They have a couple nice goalie prospects and pickering who MIGHT be a solid 2nd pairing option someday but we're talking about YEARS from now. Nobody they draft at 14 this year is going to help this core, and the chances are they likely won't ever be impact players anyway.
Use the little assets you have to make savvy enough moves to help this core MAYBE make one or two more runs. They deserve it, we have been SPOILED as fans of this franchise.

Because you need youth and prospects to win the cup. That's part of the reason we've been declining, because we have no young talent to infuse into the lineup and the young talent we did have Hextall traded them away. We are not going to win the cup just signing a bunch of free agents and trading the 1st for a goalie. That's not how you build a cup winning team. We need to get extremely creative and find a way to get younger. Trading away our highest draft pick in years is not going to fix this team. We need to get young through the draft and through trades not involving the 1st if we can, and if we are extremely lucky then these players can help Crosby Malkin and Letang at the tail end of their careers.
My hope is we trade back to get 2 more early picks but I would be okay with keeping 14 as well.
Also, I've had no life this week and watched alot of film on this year's prospects. So just my two cents, the guys I would really want are Perrault, Yager, Axel Sandin or Barlow.
Barlow or Axel Sandin are my top options. But would be happy with any of them. Barlow reminds me of a JT Miller, would love to have him

I didnt even mention Axel Sandin Pellikka because I assumed he would be taken in the top 10. Same with Moore. He looks like the next Swedish Quinn Hughes

That's just insanely silly thinking. You are absolutely 10000% wrong. You win the championship with established players. Sometimes you get lucky and a young player turns out to be amazing but they are FEW AND FAR BETWEEN. Montreal has to be one of the youngest teams in hockey, how'd they do? How did the young devils do? How did the young leafs core, the young oilers core? The young canucks?
That's just non knowledgeable hockey fans. Fans who just read their favorite blogger, watch the games and parrot them. If the penguins use the 14th overall pick this year to choose a player - they have slammed their window shut. You just resigned Rakell, Rust, Letang & Malkin. You've made a commitment to the core. They will not be around in 6-8 years when this 14th overall pick is an impact player in the NHL. You trade these prospects and picks for players who CAN PLAY. Not for players WHO SAME DAY MIGHT BE ABLE TO.
Do you know what happens when Sidney Crosby calls it a career, likely in 5 more seasons? This team crashes and burns. There is not a retool opportunity, there is no small rebuild. It's to late for that. In 5 years, you move on from everything that has value, you tear it all down, and you start over. There was an option to have this team setup for a post crosby era, Jim Rutherford chose not to go that route & than Ron Hextall chose to do NOTHING but crush the teams competitive window since.
Someday you'll get it, go back and watch the 2003 Pittsburgh Penguins.

A rebuild is just a natural part of the cycle. Obviously we're going to be horrible in a few years. But it's not going to be 5, it will be much sooner than that. I mean we are already on the decline, I don't even know if we make playoffs next year. Obviously youth doesn't automatically equal a good team. But it's how you build a good team long term. Look at all the teams remaining in the playoffs. The Stars have an old core, but they have youth surrounding it. Hintz, Robertson, Heiskanen. The same applies for every team still in the playoffs. It's not something that guarantees you a playoff spot, but it's something that you need to win in the playoffs. That's literally how we won in 2015-17. We would not have won those cups without Sheary, Rust, Guentzel, etc. You need to have a mix, and thanks to Hextall trading away guys like Marino McCann etc. we have none. We're not going to get it through free agency and we are not 1-2 moves away from being a cup contender. To say a hockey fan is non-knowledgable because they think this teams window is closing and it's time to focus on the future just doesn't make sense. Look at the Blackhawks, Red Wings, and other dynasties. They held on for too long and it prolonged their rebuilds a ton. If we trade away this pick it will just dig us deeper when the time comes. The difference between us is that I think it will be in 1-2 years, thus me wanting to keep the pick. If the window was really open for 5 more years than 1000% I trade it. I just don't see that being realistic at all. I get where your coming from and obviously you know what your talking about, but I disagree. I think even if you disagree hopefully you can see where I'm coming from.
