I would take the under but praying for the over.

Potential Trades:

Trade Kuzy: Fairly Likely
Trade Mantha: Fairly Likely
Acquire a top 6 scoring winger: Likely
Acquire another top 6 winger if we trade both kuzy and Mantha: Maybe

If we ship out kuzy and mantha I feel like we will at least make 4 deals. The UFA class is so weak.

Would love Debrincat, Keller, Bratt, and/or PLD (if he signed long term)

My predictions would be:
Kuzy Trade
Top 6 Forward Acquisition
At least one trade down in draft
Move for expiring Reserve List rights (maybe Farinacci?)

I think Kuzy is definitely traded, one top 6 forward is brought in by trade, and they make one trade up in the draft.

Mantha i'm not as sure about because I think he could be bought out instead, don't think he will be on the roster though.

I could also see them taking on another iffy contract for free: Garland immediately comes to mind

If Oshie or Backstrom are done, which I think is not the case, they will 100% make another big move

It was definitely interesting to see the difference in outlook between Backy and GMBM. Backy sounded optimistic and GMBM made it sound like he should consider retirement.

I still expect Backy to come back but i would not be surprised if Osh has to hang them up.

Thinking about the cap space we would have if Kuzy, Mantha, and Osh weren’t on the roster is quite fun.

my guess for the lines right now is:
ovi-strome-wilson
milano-backstrom-new addition
new addition (although possibly connor brown resigned or Mantha if not moved) - mcmichael - oshie
protas-dowd-nak

Obviously it depends a ton on if they end up moving Kuzy, but I see him as 3lw or 3c next year

My hope for the lines (your lineup is much more likely):

Ovi - Strome - New Addition
New Addition - McMike - Willy
Milano - Backy - Osh
Brown/Protas/Frank - Dowd - NAK

Really hoping we are able to get two top 6 forwards and not two middle 6 guys.

Tom can obviously play on the top line but he would be great to pair with McMike.

Backy and Osh need third line minutes and Milano would be a perfect partner for them.

I like both of these lineups but I think McMichael is more likely to be a winger with the emergence of Protas as a great defensive center. Now, this is all reliant on what happens with Backy and other roster question marks, but as of now I see Protas as a more likely fit for center given how well he played on defense. My prediction would be:
Ovi-Strome-New Addition/Brown
McMichael-New Addition-Wilson
Milano-Backstrom-Oshie
Protas-Dowd-NAK/Frank/Brown

yea ideally they would keep milano-backy-oshie together and give them 3rd line minutes, but I unfortunately don't see it happening. In an ideal scenario I would want the middle 6 to get basically even 5v5 deployment

The Wilson for Marner/Nylander trades are quickly getting old.

I will say I saw a Wilson for Marner plus a 2nd lol.

I don't think there is a trade that works for either team.

Anyone else worried that GMBM won't make enough changes and will essentially run it back with the same mid team?

I want to believe there will be a major retool but both Kuzy and Mantha may be difficult to move.

The UFA class is also incredibly weak.

not really. obviously i'm a big fan of GMBM anyways, but even his biggest haters can admit that when he says he's going to do something he does it. has been saying the entire offseason they need to get a top 6 forward, I think there will be plenty of opportunities for him to do so

I'm a major believer in GMBM as well but I think its going to be difficult to revamp the roster into a contender (unless one of Backy or Osh retire).

He also said he wanted to get younger before last season and we got even older (now some of that is prolly young guys not making the team or Lavi not playing them)

I mean strome and milano were younger, and everyone forgets McMichael got the first crack at 2c in camp and didn't play well

Just saw the replay. It did not look good - direct knee on knee collision and Sandin fell immediately to ice.

Oh yeah, I fear he’s done for a while. Maybe this clears the way for an Orlov return, at least for the year? I’d still be incredibly worried about money and term but I’d say it at least makes a bit more sense now than it did just a week ago.

Sandin not being out long term is huge.

Anyone think Mantha is worth holding onto and trying with the new coach? He hired a mental coach and seems determined to prove his worth.

I've never been a fan and still want to move him but I could be open to his return

if they can't bring in anyone else then i think he can have a real bounce-back season. this is the year to be ruthless though with him, kuzy, oshie though. can't wait around for them to find their game
