if they can't bring in anyone else then i think he can have a real bounce-back season. this is the year to be ruthless though with him, kuzy, oshie though. can't wait around for them to find their game

It’s hard not to think about the cap we’d have if we got rid of all three.

What would a trade package from the Caps for Matthews be?

I know completely unrealistic, but just was thinking for fun about the idea

Starts with the 8oa I assume - then maybe 2024 1st, McM, Iorio, and a 2024 2nd? More? Genuinely curious as I have no idea

I think they would want a Tkachuk style package -- Wilson, Fehervary, 8oa, 24 1st, Protas? I don't really think the caps would have the assets

His trade value would be so interesting. Top 5 player in the league for sure but he is about to get paid and might handicap a team financially. I would think there would be at least two teams bidding hard and driving up the price but I could also see him getting less than he's worth due to the difficulty of fitting his cap hit.

I think a trade for Yegor Sharangovich would make sense...

Saw an article connecting Mantha to NJ. What would a trade look like between the two?

Sharangovich for Mantha and a 3rd? Caps add more?

Pumped for Carbery. I would’ve been happy with Halpern or him but he was my preference.

Should see an injection of youth and a much improved PP.

Now we need to get to the aggressive retool

4 years is basically what’s left of the ovi era. Half we got him long term

was lucky enough to go to the hershey game tonight. some takeaways:

watching live hockey is so fun
lapierre looked great
mcmichael looked good too but still seems to float a bit
frank was horrible
hershey's d are all so slow

it’s been nice that NBCSW is broadcasting Hershey games, I’d agree with pretty much everything you said. I like the idea of uniqueness with Protas on the power play, I’d potentially be interested in trying him there in the preseason, even if it’s just for him to park his 6 foot 6 ass in front of the net and make life a living hell for the goalie.

Carbery is saying all of the right things in the presser. I think he will bring an energy that's rejuvenating for the vets and inviting for the younger guys.

Its really on GMBM to create a successful aggressive retool

Kuzy needs Carbery.

I don’t wanna give Mantha a second chance.

Mikey could play 2c possibly and we move Kuzy to wing?

And we are getting another top 6 forward.
Idk what we do

I think Kuzy would bounce back with Carbery but I think that ship has sailed with management. More likely we keep mantha but hopefully we trade both

I have mixed feelings on keeping Kuzy.

I think there is too much scar tissue and he needs a fresh start (not sure if Carbery is enough).

At the same time I could see him getting back to a ppg with Carbery and being the player he used to be.

If he stayed he could block McMike (I know he can play wing but center is preferred) and it would limit us to only being able to bring in one top 6 scoring winger when we need two.

What do you guys want to do with Kuzy?

Assuming Backstrom’s outlook continues to look negative, I’d keep him. Would like to see him timeshare 2C with McM (I like Protas potentially at 3C for defensive purposes), and to have him test at the wing for the future potentially.

Now, if Backstrom is coming back, then deal him. I think you can get a far better return than Mantha, and you free up potentially more cap as well. Plus, as you identified, McMichael needs playing time somewhere.

I would definitely prefer to keep Kuzy and have Backy LTIRetire but I think Backy is going to come back whether we want him to or not.

Ideally I’d love to go Strome - Kuzy - McMike - Dowd but backy is prolly happening whether we want to or not

Trade him. If everyone under contract returns, the lines are looking something like

Ovi-Strome-Wilson
McM-Kuzy-Mantha
Milano-Backy-Oshie
Protas-Dowd-NAK

with the second and third lines switched if you want.

It's clear they need to upgrade at forward, but where? Ovi, Strome, Backstrom are going nowhere. I think the org is very clear that McMichael is going to be in the NHL next year. They have no incentive to move Milano on a cheap deal that he just signed unless there was a crazy overpay. As much as it might help I think Oshie has earned honorary NMC status with the org and he seems like he wants to keep playing. Everyone loves Wilson, although maybe if contract talks really go bad or Toronto was willing to do something stupid they would move him.

That leaves Kuzy and Mantha as the odd men out. I think Mantha is a cap dump at this point, but no matter how bad Kuzy was last year he is only a year removed from a 78 point season and is an incredibly offensively gifted center which are in high demand in the league. Obviously they would be net negative on future assets with all of the correlated moves, but how much better does even an

Ovi-Strome-Wilson
Schmaltz-Backy-Horvat
Milano-McM-Oshie
Protas-Dowd-NAK

forward group look? Now think of a dream

Ovi-Strome-Wilson
Keller-McM-Nylander
Milano-Backstrom-Oshie
Protas-Dowd-NAK

I think Kuzy could get back to his old self, especially w a clean slate with Carberry and that it's much more likely he'll rebound than Mantha. At the same time, this team doesn't have the luxury of waiting around for guys to find their game again. I love Kuzy and will always remember his MVP-caliber play in 2018 to get us the cup and defend him against the bull**** "locker room cancer" allegations, but its time to be ruthless.

I agree completely, i cannot see enough of an upgrade in the top 6 if we keep Kuzy

Debrincat is officially on the market, what would you guys give up for him?

2024 1st and Lapierre plus maybe a 2nd is my thought.

He and Strome have great chemistry so that top line would be pretty awesome.

Ovi isn’t the easiest player to play with and he seems to like to play with Strome. They have good chemistry and I’d be surprised to see them split up.

Ideal world:

Big Man - Strome - Cat
Keller/Nylander - McMike - Wilson
