Big Changes

Created by: TMLBRIAN
Team: 2023-24 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: May 18, 2023
Published: May 18, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Matthews extends 12m x 8 years
Nylander extends 8.5m x 8 years

St Louis get a good young RD for the 29th-32nd overall. I can see both teams being happy with this.
Seattle get a star winger/centre to help compliment their good players but take on cap. Leafs get a good middle 6 guy and save cap.
Chicago takes on Murray for picks (more than Toronto paid to get him by one round)
Calgary upgrades their 2nd to a late 1st, shed some cap and get a good middle 6 guy in Jarnkrok. Leafs get a very good defensive RD with 1 year left.
Leafs get 8th overall, Wilson and Mantha for Marner and 28th overall. Leafs redistribute Marners cap between 2 players and add size. Washington get a selke candiate, 100 pt winger.
Winnipeg get 8th overall and a mid pick or prospect for Dubois. Leafs get a good 2nd line centre for 8 years.

I really like the look of this team in the short and long term.

It is assumed that all NTC's are waived.

Thoughts? Is any or all of this completely insane? Who says yes? Who says no?

You benched Liljegren for most of the playoffs and you think he's worth a 1st round pick?

Late first - yes, yes I do. He struggled to end the season and in the playoffs but had a really good year overall. Leafs D core was super deep after the deadline. I think Lily would fit in nicely in St Louis and the 28th overall is very reasonable for him.

I would like to give him a try on the 3rd pairing, but not for a 1st. Maybe one of our of mid-2nds.

If they can get him for cheeper, they should. Would be a steal in my mind.

Eh, I think Seattle is better off using their cap space to lock up their key RFAs and perhaps eventually pursue a star player who lines up better with their competitive timeline. Tavares is definitely better than Bjorkstrand, but really isn't worth his massive cap hit anymore. Meanwhile, Bjorky still provides solid value for his smaller salary.

It's all moot anyway since Tavares has already stated he won't wave his NMC for anyone. He's committed to sticking around in Toronto and seeing out his contract.

Hawks decline. They don't consider taking Murray unless the '23 Boston 1st is in the deal

Love marner and I think the Caps would consider it, but it's a no.
