Sharks fans - What do you think

Created by: kman0101
Team: 2023-24 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: May 18, 2023
Published: May 18, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
SJS
TOR
  1. Karlsson, Erik
Additional Details:
Take JT, and flip him to Colorado and retain $4M over the next two years. Return from Colorado is a 1st, 2nd, and a B-Prospect bringing the total return to Brodie, Robertson, 1st, 1st, 2nd and B-Prospect... (Assume Leafs brass can convince JT to waive)

A 7M JT in Colorado is very attractive, especially with Landeskog out, and likely done for his career.

Brodie does nothing.
Is Robertson ever going to play? No offense, but he's been injured more than he's been available right?

Tavares said no to coming here and went to Toronto. Pass.

you're not keeping but them flipping him to Colorado with retention for 2 years for 1st/2nd... and prospect.... retain 4M for two years vs EK retention for 4

I know, I read your explanation. I just want to point out he said no to coming here. So on top of that, you want us to retain 4m for two years? We're already retaining on Burns. Likely someone else this offseason.
I am not a Grier fan, but I imagine he won't lock up all 3 retention spots.

If you trade EK anywhere he will need retention... for 4 more years. My angle here is JT will not waive for SJ, but he'd consider waiving for COL. retention for SJ is only two years vs 4... and you get more assets than with just Karlsson alone. I think it speeds up the potential for Grier to flip picks for talent, clear cap sooner (nobody has the ability or current cap structure to take on that full contract - except ONE)... and you guys could be turned around within 2 years just in time for JT's retention to expire.

JT can exit with honour from TO... and compete for a cup with COL and great talent.

It's interesting for sure, and one of the more interesting ways the Sharks could weaponize their cap space. It's a lot of retention, but for 2 years on Tavares instead of 4. That much more palatable.

Hard to gauge the value on the trade from Toronto since EK65 and Tavares are probably pretty close, but then again a straight up 1-1 trade isn't really of interest to the Sharks. In any event, I think from Toronto we'd be more interested in Villeneuve or Timmins than Robertson though.

Sharks don't need to trade EK though. That's the difference. Unless he wants out which he hasn't stated.

The organization being turned around in 2 years isn't going to happen either. Regardless of this trade.

Congrats on coming up with something original and interesting. I think if you could find more interesting prospects to replace Timmins and Robertson, the Sharks would have more interest. In the end they get back a B+ prospect plus 2 late firsts and a late second for Karlsson and $8M retained.

The reason that Robertson doesn't move the needle is that he matches the profile of what the Sharks already have in their pool. His injury history also doesn't inspire hope.

Admittedly I am not up to speed on what type of prospect Villeneuve is. But I would lean against Timmins. I think he is a great reclamation project with lots of upside. BUT... if thats the debate... the deal gets done.

If they arn't any good, why not trade your Norris winning asset at its highest value? Why should they keep him then? I think you are coming around on my trade and you wont admit it smile

I'm not to be honest.

I understand why you want JT out though.
