Stealing Others Trades

Description
I saw these trades from fans of their respective teams(although I added the retention on the Blues trade) - so don't shoot the messenger haha.

The obvious asterisk here is does Carter waive. I've been a pretty staunch "Carter isn't going anywhere" guy - but this is one of a couple teams I could maybe see him waiving for.

I think these trade are interesting. Pens get a couple prospects and an extra 1st - and are still able to make the team better.

I thought about getting real weird and using the 1sts to go after Saros - but I think that would've been too much

Let me know your thoughts.

No to Krug. No no no no no no lol

And for that price, STL should be retaining 50%.

Krug isn't really THAT bad - albeit maybe a bit overpaid. But he's still a clear upgrade over what we had last season in Dumo.

There's zero chance STL retains 50% at all, much less for 4 years. It's not a perfect trade - but I still think the overall trade is good for the Pens. There's always going to be give and take in a trade

Fair enough lol. That's why I made sure to put that in the description. Although if I remember correctly, you did say you would retain like 750K in the comments of your post?

I don't think it's selling out for Krug THAT much lol. Part of Pickering's value goes to moving up in the draft, and another part is for getting Vrana. It's not a perfect trade - I was curious what the Pens team could look like with these two trades happening. Also, Krug on the 3rd pair will help him tremendously. It's what we did with Schultz and Matheson.

i meant cap space wise. i wouldnt waste $5.5m for krug when there are cheaper (and much better) options that provide what he does and more. the one thing hexy always does is keep picks. might as well use them, the rebuild will be long and grueling anyways

Oh I gotcha - my bad haha. Yeah it's not ideal for sure. The TOR trade gets Carter's salary off the books - which was going to be 3.125 of wasted money this year. That's the only reason I can somewhat justify taking on Krug's salary. In a vacuum I wouldn't take the STL due to Krug's AAV.

I guess I've just always loved Vrana - and am not crazy high on Pickering either - which plays a part in that trade for me

I'm happy to discuss man. It objectively makes their pick/prospect situation better. And I would say this roster is better than last years too. You can put together a better current roster most likely - but this was also looking forward as well.

Watching Jeff Carter for 82 games must have been painful. I’m sure Leaf fans would rather have Murray on the IR. Guentzel is a heck of a player though.

If Murray is available to be put on LTIR then yeah that would definitely be a better move. Honestly I'm surprised Leafs fans haven't just suggested buying Murray out - his buyout is pretty low. I thohught it was an interesting trade so wanted to see what it would look like from the Pens side of things.

Murray player 26 games this year He got hurt in practice, hurt in warmup, hurt when an opposing player skated by and bumped into him. I don’t think he played more than 4 games without getting hurt. He played 20 last year and 27 the year before.

It would be hard to imagine a scenario where Murray plays a full season. He gets hurt pushing too hard accross the crease.

I did see it earlier. You beat me to the punch so I wasn't going to post one with these trades haha - that's why I tried to shake it up a little bit. I like yours a lot as well. A bit more defensive focused than mine - that d core should be great. And Engvall is good defensively too. I like the UFA signings for sure. People can complain about Krug, and the complaints are valid, but he would still dominate as a 3rd pair dman.

Overall it looks like an upgrade to the roster they had last year but also improving their future outlook. I've been a pretty all in now guy, as you know haha, but I think that's a great middle ground. I might just be blinded by the fact that we get Vrana though

In what we is he an upgrade over Dumo? Krug is terrible defensively.

And so was Dumoulin. At least Krug is good offensively and would benefit the 2nd PP as well. Krug obviously isn't what he once was but he would still dominate 3rd pairing minutes and competition. Same way we handled Matheson and Schultz. I'm not asking him to play 20+ minutes with Letang against another teams best line every night.

If we didn't have Petry then I'd say sure, but we don't need more guys like this. We need more Marino-types.
