You are delusional. In my humble opinion, Marner isn't worth Forsberg, or Saros, let alone both of them together with a cap dump for a return.

There is in no way any humility in this statement. A bunch of malice, bias and hate behind it. Just a run of the mill leaf hater comment.

Yeah... don't see how this helps nashville. Yeah sure Marner is an upgrade on Forsberg but the drop off from Saros to Murray is huge. Saros is the most important piece on nashville team

Funny how 99 point Selke finalists aren’t worth anything around here.

This is assuming Nashville is ready to let Askarov run with the starting job.

I never said he wasn't worth anything. He just isn't worth that in my opinion. You don't have to sell me on Marner lol. I know what he brings and how good he is. What I'm saying is, why does this make sense for Nashville? It doesn't. Lets trade away a guy who can be a habitual 40 goal scorer who is locked up long term. Let's trade away our goaltender who just so happens to be top 5 in the league on a steal of a contract for the next 2 seasons. In return, let's get back a guy who's biggest weapon would now become Matt Duchene. While a very good player and goal scorer still, he's no Auston Matthews. Marner has 2 years left on his deal and will now become the best forward on that team with not a lot of help offensively. Now lets throw in a guy in Matt Murray who is made of glass and makes nearly as much as Saros does. The 1st round pick is decent sure, but it's hardly the compensation Nashville would be asking for if they WERE to be trading away two pillars of their franchise (newsflash they aren't). So Nashville takes on more salary cap total in the trade. Gets Matt Murray an unreliable goaltender who is basically a cap dump at this juncture. 2 years of Mitch Marner. And the #28 pick in this years draft.

This trade is not fair whatsoever in my opinion. Not only is it not fair, it doesn't make sense for Nashville. Nashville won't be gifting anything or doing anyone any favors. Also Askarov isn't ready. Just throwing a potential franchise goaltender into the ring with 1 game of NHL experience and telling him to "take the job and be our guy right out the gate" is not a recipe for longevity, success, or good asset management.

Bad trade. Just my opinion.

Took Stamkos 12 years to win a cup and he played in 1 playoff game that year. It’s Marner’s 7th year. He has been a first team all-star each of the last 2 seasons at RW. He is effectively a 100 point player over 82 games. He is a finalist for the Selke. He led the NHL in takeaways. He has 554 points in 507 games.

Forsberg has had 1 NHL season over a PPG — his contract year. He had 42 points and 19 goals this year.

He isn’t in the same stratosphere as Marner.

If you throw in Samsonov instead of Murray, the trade is more even.

But if Nashville trades Forsberg and Saros, they're basically pressing the red button and going into full rebuild mode.
They're gonna want futures and prospects, not Marner.

Not sure what relevance Stamkos has to this thread or discussion. But like I said, I am fully aware of Marner's caliber and track record. Also Forsberg was hurt for half the season so I hope that is being taken into account on your behalf. 42 in 50 games is not god awful on a team that was collectively having a horrible season offensively. .82 ppg is not that bad considering his main trade is being a goal scorer not a playmaker. He's hit 40 once, 30 twice, 20 5 times. He's had a few seasons which were fairly close to point per game seasons. If we are judging players values side by side individually, I agree with you, Marner is worth more. He brings more to the table. How much of that is attributed to the team/line/players they are playing on or with? That's a very intricate question that can be applied to both Marner and Forsberg. But I'll stay away from that. Marner is worth more side by side, but in this reality, in this scenario, Marner is worth less to Nashville than Forsberg is. I think most people can understand that. So as it pertains to this trade, Forsberg IS in fact "worth" more than Marner. Because of the things I listed in my previous comment.

You have to mention how many games Forsberg played if you’re going to throw stats out like that. Your comment makes it seem like Forsberg got paid and fell off, which isn’t the case at all. You can’t just throw stuff out that fits your narrative. Do I think Forsberg is Marner? No, but let Forsberg play with JT, Matthews, and Nylander, and I would be willing to bet his numbers would greatly improve.

As for the trade, gotta think Nashville easily passes.

42 points in 50 games is not close to what Marner brings. Not to mention Marner is a Selke level forward.

As for Saros his .919 was the same as Samsonov.

Do not compare Saros to Samsonov lol. The teams in front of them are not even close. Also, look at more than just one season. Those two are not the same

Goalies are voodoo. Look at Florida, Bob was a cap dump 30 days ago. Florida started the playoffs with Alex Lyon. Anderson was on the bench for Carolina. Ottenger hs been pulled multiple times. Vegas? I don’t even know who is net for them. Sammy was good this year and deserves credit.
