A couple of picks for a mult-year Vezina nominated Goalie who has won the Vezina and is in his prime and the only reason the Jets win most games????

He has one year left on his contract and is likely gone this off-season. That probably wouldn't be the full trade but I doubt most teams pay more than what's offered.

13th overall upl and ostlund for helle and Stanley is on the table. Leafs simply won't have the best offer lol

If they trade Marner they could probably recoup assets to compete with that offer, but I agree that they probably won't.

Two presumably late firsts aren't getting Hellebuyck. If the Jets trade Helle, he'll be moved to a team where he is willing to extend, so that would up his price and you'd have to compete with that whether you want him for one year or more.

I'd also imagine the Jets look for a good goalie prospect as part of the return.

That Marner trade doesn't make them "much worse". They get a top pairing 26 year old dman and a better two way winger. If anything it rounds out their teams and allows for some cap flexibility not having $11m tied up in one player.

With that said, Flames shouldn't make that move with their cap situation.

This exactly. Calgary already needs to make at least 1 trade to be compliant (assuming the cap only goes up 1M). Marner is not a reasonable fit for the flames Nylander is much more of one

I should clarify, I didn't mean that it would objectively make them worse. I can just see us having a down season and miraculously making a run to the finals because, hockey.

I get the logic. Would it really make Nylander more of a fit though considering his extension could potentially reach double digits?

Flames have lots of cap room opening up the following summer and Nylander won't get 11M.

Probably not 11, but he could get 10. I can see why Nylander would maximize your chances next season, but wouldn't the cap situation be the exact same compared to acquiring Marner for the season after?

I doubt it. His comparable players in terms of skill are Kyrou, Fiala, Bratt, Meier, etc. I would be shocked if he got more than Tkachuk
