Don't see a rebuilding SJ being interested in Tavares unless the package is a bit different, or maybe even at all.
I don't think they'd want to be taking back another veteran's $11M right after giving up $11.5

YES you are correct. They flip JT to Colorado for more assets retaining 4M on the cap for the next two years.

Would be a decent move for SJ if they have a taker for JT. Since it's just two years left they should take the max 50% for a better return as well. Obviously extremely unlikely, but Colorado's top 6 would be stacked.

Landeskog is done for next year already, and likely done for his career. factor that in and it becomes a need for them. I think that would be attractive, maybe the only attractive destination for JT to waive to.

The more I think about it the more it kind of makes sense with Landeskog probably done at least for next season and their desperate need for a 2C.
Feel like if you added a sweetener or two you could get SJ to retain a percentage but whether or not both sides want to do that remains a different question
