if all it took is a 2024 1st rounder to get Pinto from Ottawa.... My isles would top your offer by giving them our 1st rounder in 2024.

And then Matthews walks for free just like Johnny G did. Trevailing would be about the worst hire.

I don't think he would be dealing in futures.

A trade with Vancouver could be like Nylander for Boeser+Beauvillier/Garland+a pick or prospect maybe. Brodie to Ottawa for some picks if they have the cap. Maybe he tries to trade for Keller.

Look at his trade history with Calgary. He makes a lot of trades involving picks, both trading them away and acquiring them. That said, Leafs have very few picks to trade.

I was talking more about the prospects than anything. I could see him accumulating picks and then trading them for an impact player. Another possibility is that he focuses on drafting for the 1st couple of years. It probably depends if his goal is going to be to keep Matthews around or to get the best return for him.

His drafting record is pretty good.

He seems to be good at drafting defenders in the 2nd and 3rd rounds which is what the Leafs will need. If he can retain most of the talent up front then he should be fine. He has a couple of late pick ups in the draft as well in Mangiapane and Wolf. I wonder if he will try to trade for guys in CGY. Would probably make a Nylander trade more likely.

Yea, Calgary is looking for a shake up and he traded for Hanifin once before so he could be part of it.

And the Tkachuk for Huberdeau and Weegar trade was a really good trade for Calgary, those players didn't perform well because of the coach. So his big trades have been successes.

I think whoever becomes the GM will have to make 1 or 2 big trades.

Yeah, if his relationship with Hanifin is a strong one then maybe he tries for him. There are quite a few RHD in this draft, I wonder if he tries to get the 11th pick from Vancouver and then try to move up to draft Reinbacher.

Pinto’s not available, especially for a late first a year from now
