Done deal 👌😌 I mean he is not waving his NMC. And NYR are stuck with him, but IF this was possible I go for this in a heartbeat.

It's a good deal for both sides. Habs could use a player to setup Suzuki & Caufield

I agree buy it all deeps on Panarin, unfortunately. But I dig the idea. Both teams move a player they would like to move. We could use Anderson as top 9 FW.

Not sure what the taxes are in Canada vs New York...but I don't see Panarin waiving unless there is a $ advantage for him AND he's going to a contender. Only a few teams check both boxes- none are anywhere near Canada.

Taxes are one thing, cost of living is another. Each dollar earned is worth 30% more, plus cost of buying a place is 1/4th the cost of NYC...

If Montreal were looking to seriously compete next year this would be good.

I would be concerned that this trade makes Montreal better and costs them some positions in next year’s draft rankings when they are still in rebuild mode. I could endure another year of sucking if it gets Montreal a chance at good draft pick next year in order to maintain the steady build towards being a contender

Think the taxes are comparable anyways. I think the biggest issue here for Panarin could be the city, maybe he can call up Kovalev and get his take.

I like it for both sides. MTL has good rep with Russians too so I could see it.

Adding one of the best wingers in the league is a massive add and they have so much youth still developing. CC was injured for 50% of last season. They are sneaky better than they finished this past season. CC was on pace for 50 goals. Playing with bread and Suzuki will only add to that. He could get 60 with both and 82 games.

Hi from a Columbus fan.

Panarin's only goal in free agency was to go to a huge city, and he wanted to be in NYC. Maybe his motivations have changed in 4 years, but I doubt he waives his NMC to go anywhere else.

Aside from that, he's legitimately one of the best wingers in the game, who will continue to be one of the best wingers in the game for the duration of that deal. He had one bad playoff series, but to move him for a player with perpetual health issues on a longer (and arguably worse) contract and a 2nd round pick is asinine.

Caufield is a mini Laine.

They stink and won't be good for a while

Good info...maybe then waiving for a Canadian team isn't so much of a reach. For sure his take on the city would be a factor- it was when he came to NY. If the $ thing isn't much of an issue then I guess one more consideration would be the role he'd be expected to play. I don't see him having a strong desire to live in EDM...but maybe if he saw an opportunity to play with McD and Drais that would move the needle. As far as MTL- good point about contacting a Russian comrade to see what the city offers from a Russian perspective. And not to throw water on the idea- I just don't see him warm to going to a rebuild situation...but hey- you never know.

Not that many teams can take on an 11.6M player. If Drury wants him gone, or if he wants out... He's gonna have to be flexible.

You could, I get that. How do you think Suzuki, Caufield, Dach, Matheson, Savard feel, cause I think they all believe they can make the playoffs?

That's the thing...Panarin doesn't seem to want out. That can begin to change, though with the new head coach.
And yeah- because of that contract and NMC, NYR have little leverage. If another destination could be worked out Drury most likely would need to take back considerable salary and/or retain.

It's a weird offseason because when there are not a.lot of good UFAs, there are a lot of RFAs susceptible to offer sheets and a few teams with big money UFAs they want to move.

New York, Toronto, Edmonton all have major question marks.

Yeah, those guys would be excited to see the team improve for sure. Cannot blame them, but I think the young 3 may have more patience for the rebuild process, especially if it ultimately gets them closer to the Cup

Who are we going to draft say 10th OA next season who will make a serious impact in the next 3-4 years?
