Cooley leaving as a UFA after college. Not necessarily to the Ducks, just leaving. No arena deal and uncertainty around the franchise as to where they will play is leading him to stay in school. Their #1 prospect bolting would be the ultimate kick in the face for a team that has taken a lot of kicks in the face.

Yeah, but even given the apparent impending demise of the Coyotes, by the team Cooley has completed his university eligibility and is about to become a free agent, the franchise may have relocated to Milwaukee, nearer his home town than Phoenix, and he might still want to be a Brew Packer (or whatever they'll be called there). Or maybe they'll show quick signs of improvement while relocating to Portland, or maybe no-state-income-tax Houston. Let's not all count our chickens before they're hatched.

If by 2026, AZ is still playing littlest hobo bouncing around 5000 seat arenas and refusing to acknowledge the writing that’s been on the wall for over a decade now…if I were Cooley I wouldn’t sign onto that uncertainty and I would demand a trade to a team that actually has a place to play that’s not an arena fit for the ECHL…you know, all 31 other teams for example.

Well you're not Cooley. We can't assume what he wants or why he went back so I think this agm is dumb

AZ holds his rights until August of 2026. I'm sure they will know far ahead of then whether he is going to leave or not, and they should be able to move him for a pretty penny no problem. I think everything is gonna work out for AZ, though. The Tempe thing sucks, but I still have hope.

If they moved to Milwaukee , Houston, Portland, Salt Lake, Kansas City, he would sign immediately.

There still a long time before he can sign as a free agent. He won't want to be playing college hockey for the next 3 years, he's too good for it. It would probably hurt his development of he did.

Except he stated that his reason for not signing and going back to school was the arena deal falling apart. I didn’t just pull this out of thin air. I think your lack of knowing that but commenting anyway is dumb.

I could honestly see him demanding a trade if AZ doesn’t have an arena in AZ by the end of next season.

It’s a sportsnet article. I could link it to you. Or you could just go find it yourself and stop being lazy.

it’s not but it’s confirmation that a big part of why he went back was the arena deal falling through and that he wants clarity before signing, which is what you asked for lol

Yeah that doesn't mean he wants won't ie that all these agms don't understand the situation. Going back to college isn't the end of the world he could win the ncaa title be a hoby baker winner definitely still helps him develop

His reason to return to school wasn’t because he loves University. He wants to be in the NHL. It was because of the Stadium vote and the fact AZ has no guaranteed place to play in the upcoming future. This strongly implies he doesn’t want to sign on with AZ until the future of the team has some security to it. That unstable situation won’t be going away anytime soon. You can read between the lines or you can stand there and say “well he didn’t actually say the words I won’t play in AZ unless they have a place to play and aren’t subject to being moved to a city I may not want to live in or play in” therefore he really will sign in AZ after next season and really wants to play there, just to make yourself sound smrt smart.

He won’t actually say something public because he’s a professional. It would be a very bad look.

People keep telling me everything is fine in Arizona. It’s a great plan. B will only need to rebuild for another 10 years. Plus, think of the money they’ll save moving into that 500 seat community arena next year.

It will take them playing outside in +35C with roller blades instead before the NHL finally admits defeat.
