No universe in which we trade three front-line regulars, two of whom have more term than Marner and one of whom is our ONLY NHL-quality LhD, for two seasons of an expensive Marner whose $10.9 million cap hit conceals the fact that we'll have to spend $4 or $5 million to replace the traded regulars.
It's starting to feel like 3/4 of your fanbase creates trades by asking themselves (1) who do I want to trade off for maximum return, and (2) who do I want that maximum return to be, without giving even a nanosecond's thought to what the other team's needs are or how that proposed trade might affect it, roster-wise or cap-wise. Just as a simple example, trading Mikey Anderson is a HORRIBLE idea for us, no matter what the rest of the trade is or how you want to justify the deal.
