So Thompson had four less points Marner, Thompson scored 17 more goals than Marner. So let's says they are equal value on the ice.
Thompson is signed for 7 more years on a great team team. Marner is overpaid at 11m and only has two years left on his deal till UFA,
Doesn't the trade proposed seem real "homerish" from a Leafs fan ?.

Well I'd throw in some picks too, this was my first time on cap friendly, and it isn't easy to figure out how to use it.

There we go figured out how to use draft picks, and I can guarentee its close between Marner and Tage. Marner will fill a building and putting butts in the seats is a thing, even if for just 2 years.

How many games did the Sabres sell out last year? Also marner is a point a game player for his career, what is tage? 200 points in 300 games?

I’m fairly confident Kevyn Adams might throw out a “go **** yourself“ before hanging up. I can confidently say there is pretty much nothing Toronto has worth Tage Thompson.

Thompson plays center which is a tougher position to fill and what does Buffalo do in a year or two if or more likely when Marner wants to move on, this just doesn't make sense for Buffalo, the picks don't make up the difference for the lost value of Thompson the player and his contract.

I doubt that very much. Tage has had one good season, and this is a MASSIVE gamble for the Leafs. Marner is HANDS DOWN a WAY BETTER player.

I agree, but Marner is a stud, and the pick the Leafs give up is because of that Contract. Marner will fill up seats, and while I will say its close. Marner is the better player by alot.

The Tage Thompson trade aside- What about the rest of the moves? My belief is the Marner contract must go as leafs are anchored to JT

Umm why does Marner fill seats and Tage doesn't?

One 1st doesn't make up the difference for what Buffalo loses in positional need and the future headache of trading Marner when he stomps his feet and Bonnie ****ing to Adams every other day.

Honestly as good as Marner is this just sets the Sabres back.

Mitch Marner is a great player, and I think he needs to be on a team where HE is the STAR. He would explode for 130 point season in Buffalo with those studs. I don't think it sets them back at all.

So Buffalo gives up 8 years of Thompson and Cozens at 1 and 2C to go with Cozens and Middelstadt for a couple years wiyh Marner, yeah man this just isn't worth it to Buffalo.

I got shivers when I read that. It's nice that Casey played well for part of last season, but I'm ready to move him for value at the drop of a hat. Thompson and cozens aren't going anywhere. As for the fans- they are exhausted with losing, it's been a clown show for years, genuinely hoping that adams and Karmanos can right some more wrongs. Like announcing plans for a new barn for starters. The Sabres were a dynamic team, and have been since granato took over. It's high event hockey, the kind that entertains on a game to game basis, but might leave you a point out of the playoffs. My point is- it's not the entertainment or star power that's causing the arena to not be sold out. Oh, and the Sabres had a good chunk of their season ticket holders, in southern Ontario, that were probably anticipating difficulty getting into the country with covid restrictions. And ticket prices got raised anyways.

What picks? The Leafs would need to send at least a couple more picks to make this work. To start the first next year and both thirds and I still don't think the deal is close to being done. Tage is cost controlled on a team friendly deal for 7 more years. Marner is walking as a UFA in 2 years.

Sabres have plenty of picks moving forward
Thompson is UNTOUCHABLE
There’s ZERO CHANCE we would move him- THE END

He’s had two good seasons now. I feel like it’s pretty safe to say he is a perennial 30 goal scorer who at worst is at least nearly a point per game player. He also costs 2/3 of what Marner costs Toronto, and is locked up for the remainder of his prime years. With that $4 million the Sabres can pay the solid defense partner they have for Dahlin (Samuelsson) for those same seven years. I’ll bet Toronto wishes they could do that. Instead they have to pay crappy teams picks to retain money so they can afford to trade for players.
