Given Seattle's flexible cap situation, I think they would match an offer sheet on Geekie, but that would probably depend on the specifics of the contract offered and whether the front office feels Geekie is a long term fit for the team.

The Devils would easily match an offer sheet on Yegor Sharangovich rather easily. The same can be said with Seattle and Morgan Geekie.

I respectfully disagree. In my opinion, Sharangovich will not play for the Devils next season since they need to shed salary to extend Meier (especially if he signs his qualifying offer which is around 9-10 million) and Bratt. Also since he made 2 million on his last contract, I'm pretty sure he will want more than 2 million on his next contract. In addition, he was scratched most of the playoff games, either because Mcleod outplayed him or he had 0 points in the 3 games he played.

That said, it would be wise if the Devils recouped an asset from the Canucks, a 2nd for him seems reasonable.

CHI declines. So this is all over before it began.

It can be a 2nd, 5th and 6th or something along those lines. It’s essentially just free picks to delay a year which shouldn’t be a big deal for the Hawks anyways

I get your logic. But what if CHI doesn't want to wait a year? That is OUR pick now. If VAN wants that specific pick back bad enough for the purpose of an offer sheet, it takes on a whole new level of value. That also means VAN is planning on being a lot better in 2024 and, subsequently, 2025, too, which means that pick will likely be later than what that 2024 pick is speculated to be. So, why is CHI just going to help VAN offer sheet another player without more incentive than some late round picks? There is leverage there that shouldn't just be handed over for essentially nothing. So maybe we work out a deal that includes VAN 2023 1st and a cap dump (plus whatever it takes to make it work) for their 2024 2nd back (plus whatever it takes to make it work). Essentially, we will help you do an offer sheet, if you will help us with our rebuild...

I understand it but you’re not doing much more then trading back a year and getting a free pick for it. I understand if Chicago wants to try to use leverage for it but if it costs any more then another mid round pick the Canucks can just flip their 2025 second for a 3C anyways. Any deal starting with the 2023 first is shut down

Unless VAN decides to do a tear down rebuild, I doubt that 2023 1st is completely off the table. If VAN can get a large chunk of cap relief and the ability to offer sheet a player that they want badly enough plus maybe another player that fills a need and/or an additional pick, they will be willing to move that 1st to win now rather than in 5 years.

But, again, CHI isn't just going to help VAN offer sheet a player for what essentially amounts to nothing. So, regardless of whether it is a deal that involves VANs 2023 1st, this isn't enough to get it done.
