Pens don't need to make lateral-ish moves. They need to add. This trade doesn't help them.

Isles are not moving Nelson, but that would be about his value.

Not until we know wtf happened in that hotel. Great player but I'm not giving up the 36th overall pick for someone who may not be playing in the NHL for some time if something really bad happened.
Gotta treat it like Formenton, it's not worth giving up anything for them until the dust settles

Rumors that Val was going to be able to rejoin the team for the 2nd round against Dallas if Avs win game 7. That being said. Every single one of these deals is awful for the Avs.

Hall will be far cheaper to aquire than Toews value.
Landy won't be moved. No need to move him while his contract can go on LTIR and moving him now would be at the lowest value possible.
Girard for Petterson is lateral and not necessary.
Overpay on Nelson.
Val is part of the Avs plans going forward and would cost way more than a 2nd.

We're never going to know what, if anything, happened at the hotel; people need to get used to that. No matter how much people want something lurid to have happened, all we know is that he wasn't arrested (there is no mention of him being questioned or even talked to by the police) and he didn't violate team rules. He'll be back with the Avs next season and, hopefully, healthy and ready to help them win games, which is something he does better than almost anyone else on the team - the Avs are much, much better when he plays.

also he's legendary in the playoffs, which is completely wasted on SJ... so this trade doesn't make sense for either team as they are better off keeping those pieces
