I can't understand why Pens fans can't give up on this.

Carter isn't getting traded. Give it up.

Unlikely? Yes. Impossible? No.

Never know what the new GM could pull off but yeah, I would not create an ACGM with a Carter trade.

The price is about right but Seattle passes. Better options out there for Seattle. I think they would be more likely to try someone from Coachella Valley next year over trading for Carter and/or Ruuta though.

Copping to "impossible" is just foolish. Technically NOTHING is impossible. Carter was apprehensive about waiving from LA to begin with because he didn't want to uproot his family and took coaxing. He made it clear he's not retiring and wants to stay with the Pens. His words were as plain as day when the season ended. It's as close to impossible as you can get. Not to mention hardly anyone would want him.

Foolish to think there's a chance. Foolish.

I am not completely disagreeing with you. If the new GM comes in and is a big enough a$$hole to him, maybe he leaves. This is my scenario where something happens: It takes an ultimatum. "Jeff, we're not playing you this season, you'll be in the press box. We can work a trade to a team that will play you if you want...and if you don't feel like retiring, we'll just buy you out."

Would that be taken well by the locker room? Most likely not. I think we can agree though this locker room has become way too comfortable. Telling Jeff to F off might be needed.

Buying him out doesn't help the cap. His hit will stay.

As far as the ultimatum, that just won't happen. It would actually take half of a season of not getting played before it reached the point of him being ok with a trade.

Finding a team that would actually trade for him? Well, that sir is a bigger battle than getting him to be open to being traded. Sadly, the best option the Pens have is sheltering his role.
