I would never trade Galchenyuk for an aging Center and a bottom pairing Dman...

Most people wouldn't consider trading Galchenyuk for just about anything. But Bergevin is.
Its the same deal with Subban/Weber. Trading to win now, instead of being patient and letting the wins come to you. As a leafs fan I was terrified of MTL pre Subban-Weber deal, as I knew they were a dominant force for the next 5-8 years. Now the window is closed to win in the next 2-5. Trading Galchenyuk is a logical move when you look at the age of the rest of the team, if they're going for it they need to do it now and Staal could be a good acquisition as a true 1C

Thats kind of what I'm getting at. That trade made them close their window before the next rebuild from 8 years away to like 4, by picking up Weber. But now that they have bought into that, they can't have undeveloped players with high value like Galchenyuk on their roster when they could have a proven player who can be utilized properly (Staal).
