Like many players, he struggled to settle in to a new team and system, and then found his footing. He got injured in the process, too. He paced at betweetn 40-45 points playing a near full season and that's with little to no 1st PP unit time and playing 2nd pairing minutes.

As a Pens fan, I dont think I would trade Petry. He had an ok year, average year. I think he has a very high chance of having a great year with us next yr. 2nd yr with a team is always better for players. This argument going on that Petry is the worst dman is laughable. He is a solid right side dman. Don't want Chiarot for him at all.

Having said that, I do agree that stats aren't everything. yes, they are important and is/will be a major part of hockey. But there is so much more to a player then stats. I HATE the "look at the stats" argument. Sure, we can look at them. but they don't tell the ENTIRE story of a player. GM's have to watch them play too, they don't not watch games and then just look at stats. You gotta watch the games too, that tells you alot too.

Yeah, you could keep him but that will likely mean more of the same as this year for next year. I thought it was a mistake for the Pens to attempt to run it back with the vets last year and I was hoping I’d be wrong because I do enjoy watching Crosby in the postseason. They failed and they simply cannot expect different results with the same team next year. Petry is one of a handful of players that almost certainly will be moved despite the cost to acquire him previously.

I think he’s a fine player but, outside of his offensive upside, there isn’t much difference in terms of talent between him and Chiarot.
