Any way Montreal can get a first for a cap dump like Monahan

Description
What would be the best cap dump for Montreal to take in order to get another first round pick?
Which team has a contract on their team that they really want to dump? Obviously Monttreal would want a pick in the top 10, but I cannot see any team in the top 10 willing to do that.
Is there a team in the 10 to 15 range that would trade a first round pick to make a cap dump (with Montreal possibly throwing in a Riley Kidney or Jordan Harris type of player)
Calgary, Pittsburgh, Buffalo and Winnipeg are all looking to be more of a “now team” than futures teams. Do they have any cap dump players that would go with a first round pick?
The Winnipeg trade is just a rough suggestion, not necessarily what would happen exactly.
Same with Rangers trade, but the Rangers’ draft spot is not terribly good.
More interested in the 10 to 20 range.

Blake Wheeler has a 5 team trade list, He's not waiving for that dump. Nor does that crap get Wheeler and the 18th overall pick.

Ok, So we should take Goodrow for free? It would take more than a 1st to take him imo, and Barron is worth a 1st

As I said, it wasn’t a true value for value trade.

Montreal could agree to trade him to a team like Colorado and play the role of a cap broker.

The money freed up for Winnipeg could possibly allow Winnipeg offer more for Dubois to keep him (rather than lose him to Montreal in free agency).

I'd rather buy out wheeler or play him for 1 year than pay to move him so you're way off here

That’s why I asked the question of what it would take to get a first. Would you do Kovacevic and Heineman for Goodrow and a first?

I don’t know if I am “way off”. I think there is a way Montreal could get a first from Winnipeg (who is in a competitive window) for taking Wheeler.
The Jets also want to sign Hellebuyck too right? So they need money freed up

No, I would consider FC for a mid-1st+ Goodrow minimum

Not a chance Winnipeg gives up a first to get rid of Wheeler when they can just buy him out, in a worst case scenario.

Jets are not in any competitive window and in no circumstance are they trading their 1st so yes you're way off. Also they don't need to sign helle as if he says wheelers money goes to him or helle is traded. You would know that if you looked for 2 seconds. This is just trash for the jets and would not pay to remove anyone right now

There is absolutely zero reason the Jets would give up a first to get rid of Wheelchair when he only has 1 yr left, could simply buy him out and save 5M and have no cap
Issues that would necessitate or force a cap move like that what so ever.
This is also keeping in mind he still got 55pts in 72 games last year. He may have slowed down but come on, this is far from realistic.

Looking at the teams in the 10-20 range, I can't see any of them giving up their pick to just dump a contract, especially not in such a deep draft. Considering the weak free agent market and stronger trade market, I think if a team trades their first round pick this year, it's to acquire an impact player, not to simply shed salary.

IMO there are a few teams who might move a 1st to dump a contract. Those teams are Washington, Vancouver, Pittsburgh, Calgary, NYR and maybe Vegas

Fun fact of the day, Barclay Goodrow (10-18-28 in 990 minutes) produced better even strength numbers than Kirby Dach (8-12-20 in 850 minutes) this year

I appreciate the consideration with sending a good player back; however, if it was a 24 first I’d consider it. There is no chance that 23 first is being moved. Way too many solid options at 23 in this years draft, hell, wouldn’t be surprised if we moved up too.

We’re not paying to move him let alone meet your insane demands.

I'd be looking PIT direction at Granlund/Carter for something like that.

That is fair. Although I wasn’t thinking that Montreal gets just a camp dump in exchange for the 1st round pick. I was also thinking the Habs could throw in a B prospect or 2. I was looking for some feedback on possible trades that could be made in that manner (I.e. with specific proposals) but perhaps I was not clear enough on that.

For example, would Justin Barron to Pittsburgh for Backlund and their first work?

Or, what if the Habs threw in their first from Florida (which now looks like it will be #31 at best)?
