To a team in need of a Goalie to contend with only young prospects a first to contend now, I think they would give up a first. If guys like Ben Charriot are going for First at the deadline a 26 y/o Goalie who had a decent/good end to the year has to be worth a 1st

Deadline deals and summer deals vary as you can tell where your pick will be. I don’t think anyone would give up a future first especially with the Sabres track record for Samsonov, who was good, but has also shown to be inconsistent. I don’t think Buffalo would do this, I get your reasoning though

Except most goalies don't go for 1sts.

Vanecek - Went for a 3rd and swapped 2nds to move up a few spots
Husso - Rights went for a 3rd
Talbot/Gustavsson - Vet for a younger prospect swap
Georgiev - (2) 3rds and a 5th
Hill - 4th

You also went back years to find a handful of examples, All of my examples were from this past season.

Also, of those examples you listed most had multiple seasons of sustained levels of play. Jones being the outlier and he was traded like 8 years ago.

I agree that Sammy doesn't return a 1st.
a 2nd seems about right.
