Description
originally i buried martin and clutterbuck in the minors to get depth that might actually be useful but then i couldn't think of who to add and decided not to.

i like daccord as a cheap backup option, he's just been meh so far at the NHL level but really good in the AHL and our goalie coaches are good enough that i wouldn't be super worried about it. it's always something they can address later if he's awful, with any luck he'll only be starting 25ish games max.

wanted to give iskhakov a shot in the lineup because god knows they need more skill but could be anyone really.

took the engvall contract from dom from the athletic's projection, i went lower on gustafsson because it seems like GMs don't value him very much even though he was good this year.

i like aho and think he was good last year so i kept him in the lineup but they can always get rid of him (he will end up a florida panther if they put him on waivers tho i fear)

i still don't think this is a cup team, but like if our goal is to generate three games of playoff revenue for scott malkin and jon ledecky i feel like we have a winner here.

wonder if we could get rid of him for less if we retained (we would save money this year on a buyout and no dead cap this year). doubt this happens but i've been pondering it

If you're retaining that much, doesn't it just make sense to buy Bailey out?

if you retain 50%. you would have 2.5m in dead cap this year.

Josh Bailey is a decent player. He just is not worth 5m a year. And looking at New York they need an upgrade on forward. So the reason why he is shipped off, is to use his 5m cap + anything they have left over on one more star forward.

Bailey would be quite desirable league wide at 2.5m cap hit. it just doesn't make sense for New York to do that.

EW projects Engvall to get around 2.9M x 3 years so you can probably save some money there

What is the point in retaining on Bailey? Just pay a 2nd and give yourself the cap space to make an actual difference.

Some bottom feeding team will give Daccord a shot in the NHL not a risk worth taking when you are trying to make the playoffs.

Seravalli projected a 4.1M x 4 for Engvall. Also, retaining on Bailey just doesn’t make much sense imo.

you save a bit of money this year (like 100k) and the 1.67mil cap charge next year. it's not a ton but it's not nothing. i'd prefer to buy him out rather than give up a 2nd to get rid of him tho

what star forward are they getting? they don't have the assets to give up for a keller or anyone in winnipeg or even debrincat. virtually any team could beat any offer they make for a player. as much as i wish they'd blown it up this year, this is going to be a run it back year. i'd rather keep the pick and try to get another guy into the prospect pool.

It does if it drops the cost to dump him from a 2nd to a 4th or 5th, and saves them cap space over a buyout both this year and next.

yeah this was my exact logic in doing this, i get it's an unconventional idea but it should be considered imo

Hawks decline. Hawks would want his full cap hit and a '24 2nd. But some other team might want Bailey half retained.

personally i’d just buy him out before giving up a 2nd to get rid of him but i know other people feel differently

Kane or Tarasenko as UFA could be strong options. Around the 6m x 3 year mark. They would not be able to re-sign Engvall. But I don't think they should either. Engvall is a solid middle 6 guy. New York needs a solid top 6 guy. Engvalls cap needs to be used to solidify that top 6.

i agree we need a solid top six guy but i would honestly rather have engvall than washed patrick kane. i like the idea of tarasenko more but i'm still not sure either of those guys is a big enough improvement to be worth it
