Even if Marner is by far the best player in the trade, WPG is giving up an elite forward, an elite defender, and an elite goaltender. Without even going into the details it's obvious this is a terrible deal for the Jets who get two aging rental D-men (one on his last legs) instead of their 1D who is locked at a team friendly deal, and none of the pieces except the 28th OV is truly pieces that they can build around. Marner and Samsonov might dash in two-years. Maybe you can make a case for Marner+Samsonov for Ehlers+Hellebuyck but there's no way WPG ships of their 1D who is committed to the team.

This trade probably doesn't convince Matthews to resign. After trading Marner, all that would matter is if they won a cup or not and if Hellebuyck and Nylander are resigned which the Leafs won't be able to afford.

That trade is laughable for the Jets.

I’m not certain Marner is a better player than Hellebuyuk or a “by far better player” than Morrissey….This is a laughably bad trade even for a Leaf’s fan.

Jets decline pretty easily. Marners contract is horrible compared to Ehlers and Morrissey’s, hell, Marners contract is only 1.25M less than BOTH of those two combined. If the Jets were moving those guys it means they are rebuilding and would want futures.
I’d be fine with a Helly to TO deal but not including Ehlers or JoMo!
Helly for 28OA/Samsonov/1 more pc, but I think that gets beaten or gets an earlier pick offered by the Pens (14) as an example but rumors abound of Buffalo (13) being interested, and wouldn’t surprise me to see Detroit make a push with the Isles pick (17)

Value on those trades can be debated. Personally the Blues one doesn't seem to be good for Toronto and the Winnipeg one seems a bit wonky.

You've painted yourself into a corner. You don't have enough cap space to resign Matthews, Nylander and Hellebuyck at the end of the season, so you've created a big issue. I don't see the Leafs signing more than one long-term UFA contract this year for that exact reason, they need to have the flexibility to offer Matthews what he asks for.

Laughable, sad as well.

Trades should be fair to both teams (win/win). Marner best player, give me a break (overhyped, overpaid and isn't a "fit" in many organizations. The Leaf supporters on here have completely lost it.

Hawks decline. Any trade involving Murray to the Hawks includes the '23 Boston 1st.
