Canucks without Benning

Description
Canucks potential roster if Benning didn't goof multiple times. Obviously I can't be too mad at him snagging Petey Hughes Demko etc and no GM is perfect but just imagine if he hit on any one of these where this team would be :/

If we did draft Nylander and Pastrnak then we more than likely wouldn’t have been in the position to draft Tkachuk, Pettersson, or Hughes. Maybe Tkachuk since it was two seasons

Obviously Benning's track record wasn't great - signing Ericksson and Myers, trading for OEL.

But I think the drafting piece is a bit of a moot point. He did miss on the guys you've pointed out. But he also took Demko, Petey and Hughes. I still believe Hoglander and Podkolzin will work out. Boeser was also his, and McCann was a good pick, they just didn't hang on to him.

His biggest issues were asset management (e.g. trading young players and draft picks), and bad contracts.

If he didn’t make the OEL trade then we could’ve easily afforded Tkachuk or Pasternak that’s more my point. If he made 1 or 2 less mistakes this whole teams outlook might have been completely different

If we change anything in the past we likely don't get Pettersson or Hughes and I'd rather have those two than any of the "what ifs"

No way the Flyers make that trade. If Provy is moved I believe they give York the number one role.

Hes saying if the canucks drafted better, they wouldve finished higher in the standings and wouldnt have been there at 5 when elias was drafted or 7 when quinn was there

The OEL deal was a cluster**** from day 1- talk about a quick fix that backfired yikes!
Juolevi didnt work out- and it reeks of drafting for position rather than potential, as Tkachuk was a much safer bet, and the Nucks needed his toughness...just not as bad as their defense needed anything. ( if Juolevi had worked out into a legit top 4 dman...would he have drafted Hughes?)

McCann they rushed and gave up on way too early, while no Pastrnak- he was a solid pick mismanaged by Benning. Now Virtanen- was he drafted solely because of him being local? Because the attitude was already there- and if anyone shouldve known about it- its the local team- Virtanen was a terrible pick at that spot and thats on Benning.

There were other deals that Benning fumbled- giving away Forsling for zip comes to mind too.
The atrocious Sutter deal- both what we gave to get him- and the fat contract he got.
How about the costly rental for Toffoli- when youre not a contender (shouldnt have been in the playoffs at all), and then when he shines...you dont resign him??? wtf.
Myers deal sucked from day 1. Ferland never shouldve been signed for more than 1yr with his injury history.
They also let Markstrom (whom they knew they wouldnt resign due to having Demko- they couldve got a kings ransom for Markstrom at the deadline) and Tanev both walk for nothing...they couldve got a ton of prospects/picks if they cleaned house at the deadline that year and retooled.

all in all he sucked, even if he got us Petey and Quinn.

How about what if Vancouver wins the Mackinnon lottery and picks Mackinnon and wins the McDavid lottery and picks McDavid?
