The team didn't get any better. They need to upgrade their bottom 6. They need super defensive minded guys in that bottom 6.

Also, I doubt Yamamato gets a 2nd. He is a decent player but he is just barely worth his 3m cap hit right now based on production. I could actually see them giving him away for free.

Their bottom-6 was great in the regular season. They created lots of chances in the playoffs but didn't cash much. I'm not sure the bottom-6 is a pressing concern. And they need more defensive minded players in the top-6, too.

I don't know what Yamamoto is worth on the open market, my main concern was that no cap came back. You could be right about his value.

None of the AHL RFA's are at their qualifying offers though

They don't have to be. Holland can offer them whatever he wants (at least league minimum though), if they sign it that's their contract.

That's pretty risky considering the somewhat shallow prospect pool though and lack of draft picks. They all had good seasons. Plenty of teams have cap space and opportunity. If they don't sign them then that's not their contract as much as if they do it is. Easiest fix would be not having them up in the NHL as non roster and bringing up the cheaper guy's instead. Yes they'd make more scratched in the NHL then playing in the AHL, but is that what's best for the development of prospects?

Every one of them will be qualified. I don't think that's up for debate.

But the QO is just the start of negotiations usually, most players in that situation will accept a different number on a 2 year deal that gives them greater opportunity to play in the NHL. There's no risk of losing any of them.

Then they match and move Kulak to make the money work. I reckon Holland will try to get the Bouchard deal done prior to July 1st, but if not I don't think there are many teams Bouchard would rather play on, if any.
