Walk? He has one left till he's a UFA. Unless he wants to play in Europe for about 7m less than what he can earn in North America, I doubt he "walks"

This is counter productive for NSH. If we're trading Saros then we're blowing it up completely. Meaning Bratt is pushing 30 when we come out of a rebuild. Pass, thanks though.

Askarov can't be that far away though, is he?

He's only 20, I'm not ready to bank on him taking that step until likely the end of Saros' contract at the earliest. Goaltenders tend to find their "NHL" stride mid 20s (most seem to anyway) and I'd hate to bring him up as the starter and ruin him by being impatient.

Don’t care if the goalie is prime Hasek. No goalie nets a 1st line winger, a 1st round pick and a former 1st round pick. Horrendous trade for Jersey

We don't trade Bratt for a goalie.

We'd trade a lesser goalie with futures...or just futures.

It doesn't matter how good the goalie is...the risk premium on netminders will always drive the price down below someone like Bratt.

So start with Saros+ for Bratt.

A top 3-5 goalie in the league doesn’t ever come available, The reason no one knows the true value of a top goaltender. Not saying I agree with the op proposal because it’s a little over board but looking at yours it’s undervaluing saros. Put saros and take bratt off New Jersey and they are still a contender probably more than they was with bratt because saros can actually steal games you didn’t deserve to win. Now on the flip side saros was the only reason nashville wasn’t a bottom 5 team. Take him off and put bratt on nashville and Nashville takes a hit in barely missing the playoffs to being way out of the playoffs. Saros has been in the vezina conversation every year he’s been a starter and should have been top 3 this year. He got rob because his team didn’t make it to the playoffs even though we were playing a lot of ahlers and rookies.

Two years ago, the Vezina trophy winner was traded for a guy who retied two months later. Different rules apply to goalie trades!!

But the amount of goalies that were traded alone for a 1st (or top prospect) in cap era is very limited....

2021 Kuemper (1 year) - 1st, cond pick, Timmins
2020 Murray (RFA) - 2nd, Gruden
2016 Andersen (RFA) - 1st, 2nd
2015 Jones (RFA) - 1st, Kuraly
2015 Lehner (2 years) - 1st (with Legwand)
2015 Talbot (1 year) - 2nd, 3rd, 7th
2013 Schneider (2 years) - 1st
2012 Bobrovsky (1 year) - 2nd, 4th, 4th
2011 Varlamov (RFA) - 1st, 2nd
2011 Bryzgalov (rights) - 3rd, 3rd
2010 Halak (RFA) - for a top-25 prospect, top-100 prospect (Lars Eller, Ian Schultz)
2007 Toskala (1 year) - 1st, 2nd, 4th (with Mark Bell)
2007 Vokoun (4 years) - 1st, 2nd, 2nd
2007 Toivonen (ELC) - Soderberg
2006 Raycroft (RFA) - for top goalie prospect
2006 Cloutier (1 year) - 2nd, 3rd
2006 Luongo (RFA) - Bertuzzi, Allen, Auld

....none were traded for a top-line forward as well.

There is just no applicable comp for this sort of trade.

I'm not arguing that the trade is lopsided in Nashville's favor, but the Vezina trophy winner you're referring to that was traded was making $7 million per year on a cap strapped team and was in his late 30s. It's not really a fair comparison in my opinion.

Kuemper would be a better comparable, but he was older with one year remaining and probably had no interest in re-signing in Arizona.
