This team is just worse by a mile. Why tf are you trading Pettersson. The Oilers trade sucks too. Just buy him out and spend the money on actually useful guys

It’s worse on purpose… hence the title making moves for the future. I don’t think the current roster can make a deep playoff run, and if you have that belief then why would you want to build a team to compete. Also why pay a player 6.3M over 4 years when you can pay him 5M over 2 years. Plus I think Yamamoto would be good on the pens roster, but that’s just my opinion.

Completely understand focusing on the future, that's what I'd do, but if this team is not meant to contend then no reason to sign Anthanasiou and Graves to 4 year contracts. Our options are rebuild, go all-in, or make some savy moves to help future, while remaining a competitor. This is sort of making a few rebuild style trades, while signing a few big contracts, but not to the point where we'll be a contender. Idk if I'm making sense here, I guess what I'm trying to say is if we chose the 3rd option to balance both then it would look like trading Guentzel, but making good signings that improve the team. Not trading him and purposefully not having a contender, but still signing those contracts. If your not doing option 3 then just go all in for the rebuild.

Detroit's not dropping 5 spots from the 9th overall pick for the 14th and potential mid to late 20's in 2024. Detroit will look to move up with the 17th overall pick. 17th for the 14th would work but we're not trading down 5 spots unless it's massive.

Thank goodness FSG does not approve of this. It's insulting to do this to Sid, Geno and Tanger. Either trade them all and rebuild or go for it. This is just nothingness.
