Anaheim isn't trading their recent 3rd overall pick for a pending ufa in Nylander. Even if Nylander had an extension in place, they would pass.

Brodie would have more value than that.

Also, Klingberg is not what the Leafs need on defence. Much rather keep Brodie.

Nylander for McTavish straight up? I think if there's a deal in place for Nylander to extend Anaheim takes it. Nylander's a 40 goal scorer, point per game player whose still 27.

No, we've got a lot of years of McTavish left and he has plenty opportunity of becoming a ppg player himself.

Toronto doesn't get to reset their timeline by trading pending UFAs for future stars on ELCs.

None of our young core, first round picks from the last 5 drafts, or first round picks are available.

Nah. I’ll take the 20 year old C that’s gonna be right around a point per game player in his prime when the ducks window is wide open over the 27 year old winger.

Would have traded Marner on his ELC for Jacob Voracek or Blake Wheeler?

No. Even if the veteran is a better player you want to bet on the young/cheap guy who's age matches up with the rest of your core. Teams don't trade players on their ELC very often for a good reason.

Washington declines, can't afford to take on more unnecessary money and Brodie isn't needed with Jensen and TvR already extended.

Anaheim declines. We'll talk to Nylander and his agent in the free-agent-negotiation window in June 2024. It would be nice to have both McTavish and Nylander, but if we're going to have only one, we'd much prefer McTavish.
