Why take the risk for 10 goals

Description
I flip flop every day, but if the Habs could work a deal like this one, I think they should seriously consider it. It's a major acceleration and the Habs have too many prospects as it is.

I know we would be buying high on Keller & Crouse, but they are under contract for another 5 & 4 years respectively.

Assuming Caufield averages 10 more goals per season than Keller over the next 5 years... Does that really matter? Keller is awesome (the last time we had a player equally skilled his name was Kovalev) and this team pushes for the playoffs next season with their size & skill

This is huge overpay by Habs. Remove Farrell and the 1st.
Actually better yet...don't trade away a future 40g scorer

laugh Keller > Caufield.

Crouse > Kidney+Farrel+2023 Florida 1st round pick 29th overall.

Not even close for both players, Plus Caufield will be commanding $8,000,000+ before too long doubtful Arizona is in position to pay him that much when they're bleeding money profusely.

Alright. But I'm not 100% sold on Caufield as a 9M player.

8M vs 7.1M... What's the difference really. They will move before the end of the year.

CoCo won't be trade... at worst if he doesn't want to Sign a bridge deal like 3y/6M-
Go on arbitration for a one year contract @ 4M, if he do GREAT then he will get is 8-8,5M/year.

Not sure you know much about those prospects, or you would not say that. This is definitely an overpay.

Kent Hughes was a players agent, he knows how the buisness works and he knows his player's worth.

He is a pretty good negociator too, he somehow managed to get Darnell Nurse at 9,25 mil for 8 years

If they move by the end of the year, All the more reason why they would never make this trade to begin with.

Kidney is a 3C at best and they don't have that much value, Farrell is a smallish 5'9" LHW. and a late 1st Crouse is signed to a sweetheart deal. Unless Bill Armstrong gets blown away with a good offer and this isn't it. he's not moving Crouse. Nick Schmaltz is probably the one that gets moved this summer.

This is also the move that will make his name as a GM. Will he be a pushover like Dubas? Or will he show Brisson and all the other agents, that he is willing to get creative if they don't play ball.

I think the mere threat of being traded to Arizona would be enough to get Caufield to sign for 8 years... If there was a real offer on the table for Keller, he could go to Brisson and say, "last chance to make a deal, or you can go figure it out in the desert".

At least that would set the stage for next year when they are negotiating PLD's deal with the Habs. Negotiation is also about reputation and if Brisson is overlaying his hand, Hughes can call his bluff.

As a Leafs fan, please make this trade... Habs get another version of Caufield and another version of Josh Anderson while giving up Caufield, a 2023 1st and their (arguably) second best prospect!

Nurse's contract is almost as bad as the Jones contract... the diff. is the .25 mill

Keller had 13 less points than Marner playing for a significantly worse team. He may not be Marner, but he's not that far off and he's 3.5M cheaper and signed for 5 years.

You're assuming I like Marner and think he is worth his contract?

youre delusional on yotes' player values. Crowse is a middle 6 guy. You can find them anywhere

He's also signed to a sweetheart deal, And basically just re-signed a year ago. He's worth more than that joke of an offer on here.

It's not really a threat though. Arizona probably isn't looking to trade away cheaper players to sign one for more money.

If he is traded to AZ, he now has all the leverage to make bank, or he'll just be traded to another team, probably a contender, where he'll have a much higher chance to win a SC in his prime.

He is by far MTL's best scorer and makes Suzuki look better. I don't get the desire to trade him instead of paying him his worth. I would get it if you're overburdened by young established players that all need new contracts, but y'all have a bunch of mediocre players on bad contracts you're looking to dump anyways

I think it's the "what he's worth" part that is still in doubt.

1) Can he stay healthy at his size in the NHL
2) Can he stay consistent over an entire season
3) Can he pass the puck, or is he just a shooter
4) Can he contribute defensively and in transition, or is he just a finisher?

All those questions need to be answered and if the answers were all yes he would be worth 10M/year ... But he wants to be paid that way today.
