Gee, why does New Jersey add, when the Leafs sign Bratt for eight years and Marner has just two years? I like Marner a lot but you know Bratt scored two more goals than Marner last season? Is Marner a super star?
You've wasted 6.5, by signing Kane.
I can't image Matthews and his ego would sign for just 12m X 8.

Bratt having 2 more goals makes him the better player? Marner had 20+ more points, and is up for Selke. Get real.

Matthews ego or personality has nothing to do with it. By the contract % standards that all players / agents / teams go by --- signing for something similar to McDavid and MacKinnon would be around $13.5+
Expect something closer to $13x 4 years.

No, scoring two more goals than Marner doesn't make Bratt better. Marner at 11m is no bargain, not bad but nothing special. But the cap is real, and that's a bad trade for Jersey if Bratt can be signed to that contract. Get real.

Piggybacking here. It makes little sense to trade Bratt and add two futures for only two guaranteed years of Marner.

Marner could still extend with NJ-- just like Bratt doesn't have to sign "that" deal.

The argument that the trade value is off is definitely fair-- I would actually agree that it's too much to give up for 2 seasons of Marner @ 11million --- but it's not because Marner is not a superstar.

Losing in the playoffs doesn't make you a non-superstar.
