Pittsburgh definitly decline. Add a first and it's still not close. Also, no way Columbus do that

Habs just take the pick, we don't need another contract on the books.

We are not signing Gurianov anyway, so thanks!

No one is taking on 4 years of OEL at 8.25M for 10-15 spots in the draft.

There are plenty of better D options than Myers, for much cheaper.

You aren’t moving his contract without adding a sweetener.

Hawks obviously decline. OEL, even w/ the retention, costs #11 just to move out.

CHI declines. It would easily cost the 11th overall just to dump OEL. If Davidson is feeling generous, maybe he sends VAN their 2024 2nd back so they can go do a Byram offer sheet or whatever. I might even be cool with a handshake deal to take Myers after his bonus is paid, in order to sweeten the deal a little bit. But all of that going back to VAN is a non starter.

His contract has value for minimum cap purposes.
$500k in salary (with the 50% retention) and a $6M cap hit.
$5.5M in savings for any team on a budget (Arizona).
In short, easily moved after his signing bonus is paid.

No. Dries is barely an NHLer, we can find a better player on the market and keep the pick.

Great, then if his value as a player is his terrible contract, then trade his terrible contract to a team that needs to hit the salary floor. Not CBJ.

Columbus isn't interested. I was merely referring to the last statement that his contract isn't moving without a sweetener.

If center depth is a 2C/3C (wherever Kasper doesn't play), then sure Wings need center depth.

With the retention from Arizona and the proposed retention in this trade his cap hit would be ~5.3M

Habs take the deal, keep the pick, and try to flip Rathbone elsewhere for minimal return.

I wouldn't take that OEL contract for the 11th alone. If he only had 2 years left then sure but 4, no chance.

Yeah. I get that. I would definitely be hesitant. But I think I'd do it. Even 3 years would be less worrisome. BUT, they could always buyout his last year, or maybe he LTIRetires, which would allow CHI some flexibility, between IR and LTIR, depending on what their cap situation looks like at that point. Depending on what happens between now and then, if we use Davidsons vision as an outline and the planned increases in the salary cap over the next few years, we should still have PLENTY of cap space even after Bedard gets his next contract.

I just think they shouldn't be giving discounts to anyone looking to dump cap. They're one of maybe 2-3 teams that have an abundance of cap space and probably the only team willing to weaponize that cap space. Don't give any discounts. Make em pay.

Sure. But we don't know what the market actually is. We aren't the ones negotiating with real GM's. I'm just saying there is a margin within which I would be ok with overpaying if it makes sense and they want to get the deal done. All within reason, of course, but I think being a little generous could ensure we don't overplay our hand and miss out on something that can help the rebuild, while also building relationships for future transactions.

Honestly, I am mostly with you. There is just another side of me that is like "screw it! Go overpay if it's gonna help us in the long term bigger picture."

The way I see it is there's atleast 15 teams that have to dump cap and on a couple that can take it on. Out if those 15 teams I'd bet atleast 5 of their gm's are pretty stupid and can be taken advantage of. But I get what you're saying. I'm not trying to build relationships like Davidson is.

Ekmann-Larsson isn't waiving his NMC for that dump in Chicago.

And no Detroit doesn't need Center depth, As we drafted quite a few centers last year including Kasper and probably draft more in this deep draft.
