KAndre Miller Ofersheet

Created by: dnoe51
Team: 2023-24 Carolina Hurricanes
Initial Creation Date: May 27, 2023
Published: May 27, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I will probably get a lot of hate for this idea, but it is something to explore. Ranger will be in cap hell having around 11million to sign 6 roster spots + scratches. The big goal would be to pull a KK offer sheet, short term, lots of money so the rangers can't afford him. We have the picks needed for this. Go in and negotiate and say, "we gave you alot of money, take a bit off on this contract and you'll get the term you want." Then you would let Skjei walk next summer and have a top 4 of Slavin, Burns, Pesce, Miller. Do I think this is realistic, no. But Waddell has done crazy stuff before. He is a master at taking advantage of bad cap situations and using them to help us long term. Assuming the cap jumps to 87.5mil in 2024-25 there would be 55.6 mil in cap space to sign the big guns.

KK is growing into the contract and was good on both sides of the puck, scored 43 points and is growing

Did you forget the fact that KK is growing into a solid 2C and a very good to elite defensive forward

Sad to say, but KK is prob already worth his contract. Good at faceoffs, decent defensively, and already at 40 points, next year he prob get 55. For 4.8 mil 8 years, that's a sound contract

Would love to see Don Waddell alienate himself from half of the league with these joke offer sheets.

Trading a 1st and a 3rd and paying a guy 45 million over 9 years to get excited about 43 points playing sheltered offensive zone minutes is pretty sad

I think Kotkaniemi currently is a dream 3C. Respectable but not eye popping point totals, but good shutdown center. As of current, I'd like to see him put up 10-15 more points before we can call him a 2C. His offensive analytics are not very good as he doesn't drive play offensively. Still, if the cap does shoot up, his contract will look a lot better

He's Evan rodrigues. Who you don't offersheet or give max term and 4.8 million to. He's just a guy

I agree the offersheet was not a smart move. It was a high risk, medium award type move. It does have potential to be a fair contract if his offensive game improves

I mean a couple of models show that this year that he lived up to his contract value and he still isn't done developing

Everything I read says the Canes need more offense. Instead of offer sheeting Miller, offer sheet Cole Caufield for something in the $10,000,000 range. Carolina has the cap space and picks to do so. That would be entertaining given the past history between Carolina and Montreal.

Issue is, Montréal can afford to match that pretty easily. The Rangers are going to have a really, really hard time with this, especially if the Canadiens (or anyone else) go after Laf at the same time

He’s a core piece for the Rangers. They’ll easily match.

The Canes offer sheeted KK in retaliation to what the Habs did. I doubt they offer sheet anyone with the stance they have taken.

I don't know about "easily match". They currently can't afford to match this, plus pay Laf anything reasonable, plus get to an 18 man roster. Serious moves will have to be made to accommodate this offer. I made an AGM detailing so.

I'd rather offer sheet Laf or trade for Keller than offer sheeting Miller

Miller plays like a canes player already. Provides offense very good defensively, smooth skater. He is a perfect fit an better than skjei. His age fits with the core of the team. I agree we need offense but miller makes too much sense given his play style and the ability to weaken the rangers if they let him go or if they match.

He has shown the offer sheet is a legit way to get players. If other GMs don’t like it then they should take a deeper look at the contracts they are giving their team and realize it’s their own fault for overpaying other players. We are just taking advantage of their mistakes.

Fair enough... I still think the Hurricanes could use another top 6 forward

They most definitely do, they have some guys coming up. My idea still leaves 4mill in cap space. Could rent tofolli with some retained. So many options I highly doubt they do this but offer sheets should become more common I don’t see why not

Miller is someone you find room for. Jesperi wasn’t when he was on the Canadiens’ roster.

bro, hurricanes need to sign Aho, Necas, Jarvis, Teräväinen, and pesce next summer, you really think giving out a 10 million dollar contract makes sense? the only one I see not coming back id Teräväinen, while Necas and Pesce will make significant raises. Skjei, Martinook, and Drury also due next summer, gotta think at least 2 of those 3 are coming back, each again at a raise, not to mention you basically get rid of 2 1sts and a 2nd at that offer sheet range, meaning no tradeable assets at the deadline for a while, better hope that roster is all you need. caufield Ofersheet aint happening
