They already have Larsson, Borgen, and Schultz holding down the right side of the defense and don't need a 35 year old RHD who was mediocre last season and has a cap hit higher than anyone currently on the team. I'm sure they'd much rather hang onto a still-improving younger center in Geekie and the draft capital to help build up their prospect pool rather than trade those assets for Petry.

There is a lot to digest there. I think that is an absolutely brutal trade for the Caps. You would have to pay someone to take Carter. Malkin is an all time great, but his great days are behind him.
