Cooley trade

Created by: JeffGorton
Team: 2023-24 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: May 27, 2023
Published: May 28, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
So what do the Yotes need? Pretty much everything because they are a failure of an Org and only a moron like Bettman would keep them running like this.

So a trade for Cooley, WOULD NOT INCLUDE THE 5TH OVERALL PICK.

Cooley is gonna be an amazing 80-90 point 1st line player. The players at 5th overall like Michkov, Smith or Carlsson can be exactly that and for Michkov's case, 100+ points.

The main rule in trading is that if you are trading 1 valuable asset, you will not receive the same value in 1 singular asset coming back. Meaning youll never get a player as good as Cooley on his own in return. But instead youll try to get multiple pieces that equal or above his value. Quantity over quality but not disregarding quality. And also you have to remember, a team isnt gonna give up key members of their future for someone else.

So this means from the Habs perspective, these are players that would not be dealt
5th overall
Hutson
Caufield
Slafkovsky
Suzuki (if he wasnt captain, hed be fair game)
Dach (Just acquired him)
Guhle

So without those pieces being involved

(Also this is a pure assumption that he wants out of that college arena)
Trades
MTL
  1. Cooley, Logan [Reserve List]
ARI
  1. Harris, Jordan
  2. Kidney, Riley
  3. Mesar, Filip
  4. 2023 1st round pick (FLA)
  5. 2024 1st round pick (MTL)
  6. 2025 1st round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
Higher of 2025 picks

This trade includes the value of 5 1st round picks and 1 2nd round pick. This is probably an overpay market value wise (not what yall perceive as a players value)

Yeah Arizona isn’t doing that, and you finished behind the coyotes the past two years so maybe calm it down.

Well the “embarrassment of an org” has finished ahead of the Habs each of the last 2 seasons, so I’d say that’s pretty embarrassing

That is too much for Montreal to give up for Logan Cooley. It is possible that Montreal is a lottery pick team in both 2024 and 2025. To give up the already drafted players (Kidney, Mesar and Harris) PLUS the possibility of a Cellebrini, Kiviharji, Eiserman, D’Aigle or Misa is too much.
Cooley is impressive, but he has not played any games in the NHL and he could (though not likely) be a lesser player than the point per game player that is projected here.

Being a rebuilding team isnt what makes a team an embarrassment. Its the fact with revenue sharing, the Habs essentially keep the Yotes in the league. Kinda like a father giving their loser son money to spend

I read ever word (and actually cut and pasted that list from the intro). If Habs wanted Cooley, it’s hard to imagine a successful package without those pieces.
