If they are seriously considering Reinbacher

Created by: jonh514

Description
I get that they might like Reinbacher, but Geez if they are seriously going to draft him it would be better to trade the 2024 pick for a young RHD who is a sure thing.

I want to be clear: I would not draft Reinbacher at 5OA, nor would I make an offer sheet since that kind of thing comes back to you, but If Reinbacher is where they are going, do this instead.

Reinbacher is the best defenseman in the draft and will almost certainly be selected in the top 10. The way I see this is similar to Jake Sanderson, he was not originally projected to go top 10 at all in earlier predictions but ended up climbing the ranks approaching the draft and Ottawa decided to take him at 5th OA. Looking back on that I think they made an excellent choice

Just remember everyone gasped when Detroit selected Seider at 8. In a redraft he goes higher. If the Canadians think he can be a top pair D then getting that at 5 is big for you guys.

I think MTL should be going after Bouchard regardless of who they draft at 5. Trade, offer sheet, do whatever they need to to get him in MTL.

Appreciate the perspective guys. The difference I think is that both of those teams already had a strong group of scoring forwards and the Habs really don't.

I am not saying Reinbacher will be a bad player... But I want the Habs to get scoring first and then build their defensive group around it.

If I’m Edmonton I would match any offer for Bouchard then move out others if needed. Letting him slip through your fingers would be unacceptable.

PPG players in the playoffs do not grow on trees.

There’s just something about 2 way play with size that everyone loves. Seider and Sanderson both were solid defensive Dmen that teams were hoping would develop an offensive game and they both did post draft.

Meanwhile Reinbacher has both, the offence and the defence. Great at defending 1 on 1 and closing out . And Great offence with almost a 0.5 PPG in the Swiss A at 18 years old. And he’s 6’2 and might top out at 6’3

There are two things for me here

1. Reinbacher reminds me of a more offensive Guhle, just imagine that pairing.

2. Offense wins games but defense wins championships. Championship teams build from the net out not the offense in (unless they are Toronto or Edmonton). I would rather have a Florida, Carolina, Vegas or Dallas type of team over those two

We can just pay Montour a killer contract in 2024-25?

I always felt that Montreal would’ve been better off taking Nemec/Jiricek and taking the best available forward this year.

I’ve felt this way even before Montreal drafted Slaf or won the lottery

Nemec was high on a lot of lists but I liked Jiricek more Reinbacher has a lot of the same qualities too

Every single time the Habs don't draft BPA it hurts them. Is Reinbacher really that much better than Mailloux & Barron? Because Michkov & Smith ARE better than any RW on this team not named Dach.

I think he is, Reinbacher is 18 playing in the 3rd best league in the world. Neither Mailloux or Barron were anywhere close to playing against men at 18
