That’s a horrible return assuming you value him close to untouchable

What do you think is fair then? I value Borgen as a top four RHD right now, Geekie as a solid bottom six guy that could turn into a true 3C, and a 3rd round pick.

Well I don’t think you should move him unless you’re blowing it up. He’s one of the few good Dmen left on the roster

What's that MTL trade? Going from 31/32 to 14 should cost more than a 2nd and a 4th.

Funny how Pettersson goes from being moved for a mid round pick as a cap dump last year here, to now being untouchable.

Nobody on the Pens should be viewed as untouchable except for the big 3. MP is fine, but if we can get a solid return for him, you move him and replace him. He's not irreplaceable. Not sure I would move him for this package though.

By the draft pick value chart I have, it costs Montreal the Florida first, the Montreal second and the Montreal third, not the Montreal fourth.

That seems bad for Pittsburgh too.

I hope they do something stupid and send that 14th overall pick to the Jets for Hellebuyck.. 😉.. lol

I love that chart! Hawks would benefit a ton. How much for the 19th to move up to the 14th?

Below is a pretty recent chart as well. Much more expensive though.

But then moving from 31 to 14 means ALOT more.

14 would cost #31, #32, #72. Aka the last (2) 1sts and a 3rd.

No?

Ok, no. I see what you're saying. My bad

Thanks for supplying the source of this work. All I had was the chart itself without attribution, so reading the accompanying article setting forth his methodology was very instructive, too. cheers

To move from 32 to 14 according to the University of St Lawrence (https://myslu.stlawu.edu/~msch/sports/Schuckers_NHL_Draft.pdf)

The 14th pick is worth 456
32nd is 246 and 37th is 213

So 32+ 37= 459

69th is worth 174 so add that to the already 459 and you get 633

Thats a gross overpayment

All the other charts are based on Dom Luszczyszyn model which has been proven flawed multiple times. The Athletic is a joke of an org and their biases make anything they write prospect wise a joke. Id rather use something using proven analytical data

Another source that isnt 2011 but 2016 is the thesis written by David Wilson of Carlton University (https://curve.carleton.ca/a1c1841a-1c3e-47b2-8337-a5690f77bc68)

His numbers show that 14th is worth 711 while 32nd is 403 and 37th 324, another overpayment

A trade for 14th with Habs would be 32nd and a 3rd and maybe a Ylonen to give surplus value while not adding too much

That draft pick swap using the 2023 FLA and PHI picks will be less than 10 spots off, which makes that portion of the trade negligible. Not a trade I'd be interested in at all as I don't think Petry is worth it.
