Created by: seanrushton
Team: 2023-24 Carolina Hurricanes
Initial Creation Date: May 26, 2023
Published: May 28, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is to fix the two biggest issues of the Hurricanes... lack of scoring and a lack of enforcers.
A PP is fixed by hiring an assistant who specially deals with the power play.

I also kind of guessed the value of Demko, Keller, and Laf

It would take a huge overpay for the Canucks to move Demko. This is not that. Their ask at the deadline was a 1st, a blue chip prospect, and a Raty-level prospect

Arizona most likely declines as well, they’d probably want a blue chip prospect or someone like Necas/Jarvis to highlight the return if they move Keller

Demko is worth more since he played on a pretty bad team. If they trade him, I think it would be similar to the Horvat deal

Okay so switch Tuevo for Gunler, Koivunen, Lucius and/or Robidas

Coyotes almost definitely ask for Nikishin/Morrow+++ if they go prospect route, as would the Canucks

Wow Teravainen and a bunch of late picks for Clayton Keller, Yeah like that would never be beat. Carolina doesn't have the picks/prospects to outbid other teams for high end players like Keller.

I'm sure there is a deal that doesn't include Morrow or Nikishin but includes some more of the Hurricanes top 10 prospects

You want Keller? Probably need to add Morrow to the deal at the very least. Your late picks and prospects aren't going to do it.

With Tuevo included it's two firsts with a guy that's proven to be a solid top-six to top-line forward and some prospects who are on track for the show

Keller is not worth Tuevo, two firsts, and Morrow... That's an insane overpayment for a guy who's only hit 30 goals once

Necas, morrow, and a 23 1st if Morrow guarantees he’ll sign after his college season. Arizona has plenty of quantity, if they’re trading Keller they’re going to want quality back, he’s signed for 5 more years on a steal of a contract. If that’s too rich then I’m just keeping him

I never said it would take Tuevo 2 1st and Morrow for Keller, Start with Morrow and take the rest out. Probably take Morrow++ for Keller he still has 5 years left at a reasonable cap hit. That's worth something.

Just say no to demko. He has health issues. We shouldn’t trade for a goalie with lower body health issues.

We aren’t going to have the pieces for Keller

This.

This offer definitely doesn't cut it. Other teams would offer Arizona far better than this pathetic offer.

2 firsts and essentially 3 2nds is a lot closer than some of the packages I have seen for Keller. I think Arizona would want at least 1 quality prospect added to the mix, someone like Heimosalmi, who projects to be a Pesce-lite should be enough to get a deal done, maybe add another prospect. As is, it would be at least make the Yotes think about. If Morrow is added, at least 1 of the picks would have to get removed.

3 quality prospects for Demko, but a first would be missing from the deal to make the Canucks actually consider. Would be better just to run Freddie and keep the assets. For Laf, the Rangers would have a hard time matching a 6.1mil OS, I get wanting the longer term, but a 6.1x1 OS just makes so much more sense, and potentially get Laf on a long term deal afterward that would look like a steal as it progresses.

As for the signings, Reaves would be a terrible signing. The Canes are already short handed enough, they don’t need to be paying a knuckle dragger to be on the roster. The cap space is available, just try to bring Ghost back on a 1 year deal. He had great chemistry with Chatfield.

Canucks decline. It would take a massive overpay to get Demko out of Vancouver. The reported ask at the deadline was a 1st, blue chip prospect, and Raty like prospect. If the Canucks trade Demko, it would signify a larger scale rebuild so they would want top tier prospects in return. I have to think Vancouver would want one of Nikishin or Morrow, and negotiations probably end there as Carolina wouldn’t be willing to include either player.

1 injury is a health issue? He looks back to form after he was given a proper amount of time to recover

Demko is not on the trade market. You’d have to overpay enormously for the Canucks to bite

Yah the Demko deal is bad
I'm fine adding another prospect that's not Morrow or Nikishin for Keller
I mean who are we going to get for some physicality if not for somebody like reeves?

Even though you guys are going through a rebuild that shows no signs of ending soon?

Not sure where you are getting this from but at no point in time has the Canucks been in a rebuild. The owner wouldn’t even allow it

Arizona at a place where they have an abundance of picks and prospects, probably looking for more quality than quantity. Interesting package, but probably need an ultimatum from Keller to move him, and a slippery slope on keeping Cooley. So they probably need to swing for the fences with any moves

Really you think a guy who's been a consistent top-six contributor on a Stanley cup contender, 2 firsts and 2 seconds is meh... I mean it isn't breaking the bank for Keller for but it seems at least somewhat grounded in what the actual return would be for a trade.

The fact that you guys have sold at the deadline and it seems like you guys might be shipping off more pieces in the off-season... Unless I missing signs of retooling. Plus you guys have been not even close to contenders for the last 3 years
