Miller was past his prime when the trade happened
Miller was 15-22 with a .923 spct on a horrible Buffalo team when that trade him. He was still playing at a very high level up to that point.
The level of play wasn’t the issue. The issue was at that point, there weren’t many buyers….well not many who were gonna pay the big price, mainly because it was also a deadline deal, and the closer to the deadline you get, the less leverage you have. Only contenders who specifically need goalies will pay a big price for a goalie.
St. Louis was the only team at the deadline who made sense that year to upgrade over Halak, and even then it was questionable for them to upgrade over Halak by paying a huge price because Halak was actually having a great year that season.
But that year, there were not many teams that were looking to add Miller at a big price Tag.
With Helly, there are more suitors at the moment, including New Jersey, and Pittsburgh
