Thats not how that works, he would sign an extension after a trade so he's traded as a rental

That can absolutely be how it works. Ask Matthew Tkachuk. Brad Treliving signed that deal w him.

Lindholm can't sign until July 1st which is after the draft.

Matthew Tkachuk was:
1. Not under contract at all, he was a restricted
2. Legally only allowed to sign an 8 year extension woth Calgary

On top of that Lindholm cannot legally discuss or sign an extension until after July 1st. Considering the draft takes place June 28th it is impossible for him to cone with an extension

That's all true. Still could be allowed to discuss extension with CBJ before hand.

I believe team's can grant a player permission to talk to another team for the purposes of facilitating a trade...

Sure but you are not understanding that it does not matter because
1. That does not change a players trade value
2. Lindholm cannot discuss extensions with anyone until July 1st
