Cap Dumps to Consider

Created by: RicXX
Team: 2023-24 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: May 28, 2023
Published: May 29, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Just see the options for dumps, ignore the team make up.

These are mostly only the one side of taking cap dumps. Obviously there would be something going the other way. I will adjust when the chat figures a consensus.

Did I miss any options? Are any of these players not seen as a dump? Let me know and I will adjust.

At first, I was just disgusted by your valuations of what it costs to dump a player, but then I saw you trading for Reinhart as a cap dump and realized this is just a troll. Good job 👍🏼

Gally will stay until he's offered a deal from a playoff team
We have no reason to move him and no need to cut him for cap space.
Most of our contracts that are Dead Weight are gone or are done in the next 2 years.
Longterm we can afford to keep Gally and Anderson until their deals are done with no real issues.
Gets a little tight in Matheson's final year only if we Sign PLD and Caufield above 9m each but beyond that we can manage it

I saw it in another AGCM, just made the jump to add it. You say no to him being a dump ok, one vote smile

Nice critical thinking skills. 31 goals and 67 points this season and multiple huge goals in the playoffs for a team in the finals making 6.5M for one more year is a cap dump. Yep. That makes sense.

Hey I can't track every player, I did take a few from other AGCMs. That's why I noted it in the description.

Gally is 100% a cap dump but he may just be a contract that plays out rather than actually dumped

For the Canucks:

Myers + 3rd for a 6th or Myers + 4th for FC's (after his bonus is paid)
Garland for a 3rd/4th
Boeser for a 2nd

Myers shouldn't cost too much to dump after his bonus is paid. He'll have a $6 mil cap hit while only being owed $1 mil in actual salary, which will be appealing to a team like Anaheim or Arizona who want to reach the cap floor while saving actual money. He plays one of, if not the most valuable position in hockey (RD) and should be able to be moved 50% retained at the deadline for a pick. Garland and Boeser are not cap dumps, they both still hold some value. Boeser is a 20 goal, 50 point 2nd line winger while Garland is a 50 point middle 6 winger, the Canucks won't pay to get rid of them. If other GM's really view them as cap dumps, we'll just keep them instead of paying to dump good players.

Pens can easily buy out Granlund. They should not consider this. A buyout saves them 4.16 mill this season, 3.16 mill next season, then have dead cap of just 1.8 mill for two additional seasons (in years when the cap is expected to jump significantly.

Canucks don't view garland or Boeser as cap dumps, and aren't trading a 1st to dump myers

I didn't put what they were getting back... you of the feeling they should just buy him out?

If they are getting nothing back they decline. Yeah buying him out is the better option than trading a first and getting nothing in return

If you notice none of the trades had anything, and I put it in the description. Probably would be NYR or TBL 2nd in return.

Driedger probably is a cap dump right now, given that he's recently returned from injury and hasn't played in the NHL in a year. That being said, Seattle has enough cap flexibility at the moment where they don't really need to dump him. That could change depending on their offseason moves, but right now they're better off keeping the 2nd to build up their prospect pool and seeing if Driedger can work his way back into the goalie picture for the Kraken.

Some of these are pretty rich returns, but all are decent cap dump candidates.

I wonder how many teams will actually be desperate this year and how many will just opt to tough things out until the cap increase next summer. It'll be interesting to see.
