I mean we can assume that they have started even or we can be realistic and realize that Yzerman started with the worst team in league history.

Nothing like taking over a team that had big cap hits for Fans Nilsson, Justin Abdelkader, and Jonathan Ericsson 😂

The detroit team that yzerman took over in the offseason had 74 points before he got there.

The New Jersey devils, LA Kings, and Ottawa senators all had less

Please let me know how he did the season he arrived because I can assure you that the team he had to put out there was all Holland's fault. Feel free to look at the pipeline they had too.

Yeah the devils really butchered Jack by: checks notes, turning him into a top 10 player in the NHL and getting him on a bargain contract

What does this have to do with his underwhelming rookie year lol

But the horrendous contracts signed by Holland and lack of any prospects are Yzerman's fault I guess.

Mercer is great. But Raymond has more points in fewer games…
Raymond- 102 points in 152 games
Mercer- 98 points in 164 games

Except for the fact that Raymond got a significant number of those points due to getting 450 minutes on the power play.

At 5v5
22-23:
Mercer: 1102 minutes, 20 goals, 37 points
Raymond: 1000 minutes: 10 goals, 20 points
21-22:
Mercer: 1140 minutes, 14 goals 32 points
Raymond 1200 minutes: 16 goals 34 points

Gap seems pretty wide this year.

The devils were paying 20 million dollars to PK Subban Corey Schneider and Travis Zajac when Fitz took over

With Perron as his co-winger lol

Dawson Mercer's cowinger was Tomas Tatar

I was unaware that PPG didn’t count the same as 5v5 goals.

You implied that the devils mismanaged Jack Hughes and that letting prospects sit in lower levels is better, stating

Nice critique! Only issue is that Seider and Raymond have been the only two picks to make the team so far. He likes to let his guys grow so they don't end up like Jack Hughes' rookie campaign.
. And yet, Jack Hughes turned out perfectly. What's seider's contract looking like after that underwhelming season?

Curious because I honestly don’t know, what was the term on those deals? Because I know Holland was handing out 5-8 year extensions like candy. On and what was it, a 13 year extension for Franzen(loved the Mule but dang).

You mean Seider’s $850,000 cap hit? Looks good. He’s still on his rookie deal.

Oh trust me; I'll be checking the pools and contracts at the time the gm took over in a sec. I won't make a point of the fact that the Devils have had several lottery picks.

Hughes is great. No one is arguing that. I think he was suggesting letting him play in the AHL may have prevents some of the growing pains and he gets to this level a bit sooner.

He is not a top line winger by any metric, though.

Amazing how 2 #1s, a #2, and moving up for a #4 can impact a rebuilding team. Imagine moving up in a lottery, let alone actually winning one 😂

Since 2017 Detroit has had:
31 picks in the top 3 rounds (devils have had 19)
15 picks in the top 40 (devils have had 10)
a top 10 pick every year (devils haven't)

All I said is he had a bad rookie year and it's weird Devils fans think throwing your prospect into the NHL is weird, but the ability to stretch that into Jack Hughes' is bad is something I'd expect only from this crowd.

Agreed. But he could develop into a very nice 2nd line winger or at least an elite 3rd liner.

Wow! Let's ignore 2017 and 2018 since that is Holland's era and everyone in Detroit despises him.
Then let's mention how many lotteries each team won.

And then they would have had to pay him more. He was a PPG player by year 3. would he have been above a PPG in year 2 as a rookie had he spent year 1 in the AHL?

Ooo ooo ooo now do top 4 picks since 2017! I’ll help, Detroit has had 1… in a draft lottery where they dropped 3 spots. You’re turn. How about the devils?
